Marilyn Jayne Spare Carr passed away at home on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, attended Kingston High School and Kingston Township High School where she was a cheerleader and graduated in 1950. After high school, she worked at Fowler Dick & Walker, The Boston Store and at Scranton Springbrook Water Service. Marilyn married David B Carr in 1953. Mr. Carr did his basic training at Ft. Devon, Massachusetts and later they moved to Ft. Bragg, in Fayetteville, NC. They settled in Florida in 1959, and she has resided in the West Palm Beach area since that time. She was a homemaker and designed interiors for family and friends. She was a loving, giving, philanthropic humanitarian. You could talk to her about anything, and she would listen and then dispense her words of wisdom. She played the part of Matriarch of the family well. She instilled in us to always do the right thing, to dress our best because you never know who you were going to run into - and a first impression is key, to stand up for ourselves because right is right and wrong is wrong, to call family together to one table even if it is just to offer some advice you might not know you needed, to save money, invest well and spend wisely, to speak eloquently and to remain quietly listening and observant when someone was trying to rattle your cage, to respond not in anger or hate but in prayer, instead, to carry ourselves in everything we did with dignity and pride, (but not too much pride, lest we be humbled.)
She is preceded in death by her brother, Gailard H Spare, parents, Harry and Allegra Spare, husband, David B Carr, best friends, Barbara H Jackson, Connie Rogers, and Betty Weller, and fiancé, Frank Roberts.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Patti Long & spouse Gene, Jeff Carr & spouse Michelle, Barry Hayes, Lauren Roberts; sister, Carol Lyme, brother, Bob Spare, sister-in-law, Renee Spare, Three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Her Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral Home and Hillcrest Memorial Park, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL. There will be a gathering for fellowship following the service at Quattlebaum Funeral Home.
