

Michael Walter Simonds, 76, known by some as the “boilerman” drew his final breath at home under Hospice care, on July 25th, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Michael was born Sept 7, 1945 to Orrie and May (Neuber) Simonds and raised in Lake Worth, Florida. He was a graduate of Lake Worth High School, class of 1966. After high school, he continued to work for Winn Dixie. Michael joined the Navy and served bravely on the aircraft carrier, USS Boxer during the Vietnam war. Upon his return he began a career at Florida Power and Light for 25 years. After retirement, he continued his own business working on power plants. When he wasn’t at work, you could find him somewhere fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, most likely in the Florida Keys. Those who knew him, knew he loved cars and liked to drive fast. He was one of the founders of the South East Classics car club and devoted his time in retirement to following his passion with car shows, fishing and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Leslie Simonds. Those who celebrate his life include his twins, James Simonds and Janell (Michael) Leatherman. He also has three grandchildren Sandra Simonds, Michael and AJ Leatherman. Michael was engaged to be married to the new love of his life, Karen Mostler. Michael was a devoted friend to many. The “boilerman” helped keep the lights on around the world, we will miss the light he brought into our lives. We will keep his light shining through the legacy he left on earth. He will be dearly missed by all.
Arrangements are being handled by Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation, and Event Center, 6441 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL. 33405. Visitation will be from 11:00am -1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 followed by a graveside service at 2:00.
