Born on November 8, 1928, in Fort Liberté, Haiti, Odette was the second of 13 siblings and from a young age embodied the spirit of strength, compassion, and faith that would define her life. She was raised in a devout Christian household and gave her heart to Christ early in life. Her faith was foundational and unwavering, and she found particular comfort in her favorite Bible verse, Hebrews 11:1—“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Odette lived that truth daily, encouraging everyone around her to walk by faith and not by sight.
In Haiti, Odette served as a maternity nurse and a skilled seamstress—professions that reflected her nurturing hands and creative soul. In 1984, at the age of 56, she followed her heart to the United States to be near her beloved sister. For the past 40 years, she made a new home in America, pouring her love and wisdom into her family—her cherished daughter Ingrid, devoted son-in-law, and treasured grandchildren. She proudly took on the role of caregiver and matriarch, finding joy in nurturing those she loved most.
A proud single mother and devoted grandmother, Odette’s greatest accomplishments were not only in her professional work but in the loving legacy she built at home. Her selflessness and strength laid the foundation for generations of love, resilience, and purpose. She led by example, always with grace and dignity.
Beyond her home, Odette was a cornerstone of her community. She served faithfully as a church deacon, choir member, and secretary. Her voice lifted spirits in song, her words offered wisdom, and her presence brought comfort and stability. She was a natural leader, a joyful spirit, and a woman of quiet strength who left a lasting impact everywhere she went.
Odette was a woman of many passions—she loved sewing, knitting, traveling, shopping, listening to music, singing, solving word searches, and spending time by the ocean. She approached life with curiosity, humor, and independence. Even in her later years, she remained resilient and eager to learn, reminding all who knew her that it is never too late to embrace life’s beauty.
She made the world brighter with her gentle heart, unwavering faith, and boundless love. She encouraged others to seize the day, trust in God’s plan, and always choose love.
Odette Lamour is survived by her loving daughter Ingrid, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends whose lives she touched deeply. Her legacy lives on in each of them—in every act of kindness and every step of faith.
