My Dearest Mother Retha,

I am writing this note from Paris, France as you have always fo)lowed me and championed  my career and travels over the last 30 plus years.  You have been my stage mother from the time I met your amazing daughter Nicole at the Burt Reynolds Theatre Institute in 1991. Yolonda became my other sister. You fed me, took care of me amd nurtued my creative soul with your love, kindness and open  heart.  I will miss your posts on Facebook. I will miss your  emoji's. I will miss the way you made me feel seen and heard,  but I will  NEVER forget you. Thank you . Thank you. Thank you. You are now our newest Ancestor who continues to  keep watch over us from above. Rest Well My Dear Mother Retha. And so it is. And it is so. Ashe. Amen.

I loved Ms. Harvey! I hope this little story will make her loved ones smile. When I was in 11th grade, she was my ELA teacher. Well I was a talker, big time! That poor woman moved my seat all over the classroom and it didn’t matter where she sat me, I was talking. She finally resigned herself to having me sit next to her at her desk. After two days she looked at me and said, “I don’t care where you sit, just go find a seat and stop talking to me!” 
I actually just shared this story today as I am now myself an ESE/ELA teacher for 9th grade. I only can hope my students will remember me to be even half as great as she was💕

Retha, your gentle, caring, loving spirit is gone, but will never be forgotten. Your strength carried your family through many tragedies. I will forever treasure the moments I spent with you. From uncle William and Aunt Maria Retha was one of the most beautiful, successful,sweet,caring,loving,Heart felt women that you can and like to be around. A wonderful mother, niece,a special person to her whole family.She was smart, intelligent person her IQ was phenomenal all ways reading 📖 , I believe she had the best and highest score in the State of NC White and Black.if you miss this her Uncle William say you have just missed the GREATEST reading this I pray 🙏🏾 that you will see and feel what just went on to GLORY to be with the Lord where we all are planning to see you in that time of our departure love ❤️ all ways Aunt Marie and Uncle William

I am going to miss her watching my workout routines on facebook and saying hi to her every now and then

Mrs. Harvey was the most impactful teacher I ever had. In 10th grade at Jupiter High, she TOLD me I was going to be on the yearbook staff in 11th grade, and be the yearbook editor my senior year. I asked her why, and she just told me "because you can do this." I was a bit lost at the time, and for someone -- out of the blue -- to show that confidence in me was something I really really needed. I'm 54 now and have been editing ever since. Over the course of the 10th grade (as a student in her English class), and then 11th and 12th (as part of her yearbook team), we grew quite close. I gave her a hard time (probably too often), but she'd laugh and give it right back. I really regret never taking the opportunity to let her know just how much her guidance mattered to me. Rest in peace, mam. You made a difference.

Retha and I became friends when she started teaching at Jupiter High School.  Retha was a kind woman who showed her students that they could soar at whatever they chose to do.  Retha loved to play the slots and whenever I went with her on the boat she’d say you can go with me but don’t come over and stand by me while I’m playing, that’s bad luck.  We reconnected several years ago on Facebook and through all her heartaches she always remained positive.  Retha, you are with the love of your life now and I hope you and Joe are dancing together again.
