

Dr. Romeo G. Fernandez Sr., affectionately known as "Doc," passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old and was born on September 19, 1936, in Iloilo City, Philippines. His journey through life was marked by unwavering dedication and a profound love for his family and community.
After completing his high school education, Doc embarked on a lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. He pursued his medical degree at the Southwestern University School of Medicine in the Philippines, graduating with distinction. This achievement marked the beginning of a remarkable career spanning over five decades, during which he touched the lives of countless individuals through his compassionate and skilled medical care. Doc's commitment to healing and his willingness to go above and beyond for his patients earned him the respect and gratitude of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Doc's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of his loved ones. He was deeply ingrained in the community of Grand Bahama Island and specifically his town of West End. Here he raised his family and became a community pillar who provided medical care to the entire town. He was the doctor who delivered multiple generations of West End families. His generosity knew no bounds, and his kindness touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He received numerous lifetime achievement awards for his outstanding service to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
Doc found joy in life's simplest pleasures, cherishing moments spent with his beloved family and friends and savoring the rich flavors of his favorite foods like pancit and adobo, his specialties. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a role that brought him immeasurable happiness.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 58 years, Emma, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. His memory will be cherished by his five children: Rommel (Amy) Fernandez, Rowema (Eric) Ferguson, Myra (Mike) Doyle, Romeo (Aimee) Fernandez, and Rand (Laura) Fernandez. He was lovingly known as "Grandpapa" to his ten adoring grandchildren: Zane, Mason, Makayla, Michael, Emilee, Zoe, Bohdin, Mireilla, Gyan, and Sophia.
A memorial service to celebrate Doc's incredible life will be held at St. Juliana's Catholic Church in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he found solace and spiritual guidance throughout his life.
