

Lois Starkey Mercer, 99 of West Palm Beach, FL died February 26, 2011. Born April 27, 1911 on a farm in Pendergrass, GA, she was the last of 10 children to pass away. She graduated from Miami High in 1929 and married Raymond C. Starkey in 1936 and moving to Lake Park, then Northwood. Ray passed away in 1961 and Lois went to work for City Manager of West Palm Beach, Richard Simmons. In 1967 she married George H. Mercer. They traveled the world until he passed away in 1988.
From a one-room in Georgia, she learned “if you want something, you may have to do something you don’t like to get it”. She belonged to the Republican Club of the Palm Beaches and lived the role model of a cheerful, giving, and caring Christian Life.
She is survived by two daughter, Bette Anne Starkey and Barbara S. Hubbard (Bille); three granddaughters; Bonnie H. Blake (John), Bette H. Fitgerald (Bernie) and Elizabeth R. Hubbard (Sean Wolslager) and 6 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 5PM – 7PM, at Mizell-Faville-Zern Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33405, (561) 833-4061. Burial to be private at Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach, FL.
