1937 ~ 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alan “Al” Richard Johnson, loving husband, father, brother and uncle, on December 26th, 2024. The sorrow felt by our family is tempered by the knowledge that on that day, Alan passed away suddenly, but peacefully at home – where he wanted to be.
Al was born in Port Alberni, British Columbia on June 12, 1937, to (Anna) Maria Matilda Larson and Axel Olaf Johnson. Al loved to talk about his memories of growing up on the small family farm, fishing with his dad, singing in school musicals and competing in track and field.
Al began his career as an educator in Burnaby but soon after moved on to design and build custom homes throughout the Lower Mainland and on various of the Gulf Islands.
Al is survived by his wife, Gail; daughters, Danae and Karin; stepson, Jeremy; sister, Margaret Ann McRae (Malcolm McRae); nieces and nephews, Ken, Marie, Debbie, Alan, Janet, Glenn and Raymond. Al also leaves behind many friends who formed an integral part of his life. He was predeceased by his twin sister Elaine Bruce and his parents.
We love and will miss him always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Bowline Clubhouse, 202 - 222 E. 2nd Street, North Vancouver on February 8, 2025 from 2pm – 4pm. An invitation with further details will follow.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the charity of your choice.
