Joan Patricia Ramsay

With full hearts, we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and extraordinary mind, Joan Patricia Ramsay. She left peacefully on August 26, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will forever remain etched in our hearts.

Joan's devotion to her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she took immense pride in being a wonderful mother to her three sons, Patrick, Kevin, and Graham. Her unwavering love and support were a guiding light, laying the foundation for who they are today. Her grandchildren, Gillian, Quinn, Tyler, Mitch, and Cole, were also a source of great pride. Joan is survived by her loving sister Myra White.

Joan was very talented. She was a world class concert pianist, smooth as silk on a water ski, and possessed a vast knowledge of movies. While raising her mischievous boys, she was an active volunteer for the Junior League and would be up until all hours typing pages of braille for the visually impaired or analyzing and marking up photographs to find anomalies of chromosomes for UBC research. We thank our mother for being willfully oblivious to the ridiculous shenanigans her boys were getting up to during their teen years.

In her mid-40s, Joan embarked on a new journey, earning a diploma with honours in Computer Science at BCIT. A trailblazer for women in the field, she enjoyed a successful career as a programmer, IT manager, and consultant. Even in retirement, she remained engaged with the West Vancouver Computer Club, tended to her garden, and cared for her beloved cats.

Our heartfelt gratitude to our partners, Alison, Erin and Alain. And just as importantly, to all our extended family, friends and caregivers for their unwavering support and kindness towards our beloved mother throughout the years.

Mom will be missed. Not just for the love of her boys but moreover as an example of success through diligence and passion.

Memorial arrangements will be shared with friends and family as we gather to honour and remember the remarkable life of Joan Patricia Ramsay.
