It is with deep sadness we announce Kenneth has passed away at the age of 75 from cardiac arrest. We find solace that he took his last breath in the arms of the son he loved, Peter, in a snowy, idyllic and beautiful setting on the North Shore in the cross-country ski trails of Cypress Mountain. Ken was the fittest he had been in years, from cycling with his brother and wife, to frequent hiking and walking with his sister and friends. He was taken from us much too soon, but we are blessed that he did not suffer as he passed. He died doing something he loved, with someone he loved.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Anne Kathleen, his son, good friend and comedy partner, Peter Cameron, along with his siblings, Jane Stringer, John and Helen; nieces and nephews, Laura (Roberto), Nicole (Toby), Cameron, Andrea Cunningham and grand niece Lucy. He was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert Cameron and Edith Phyllis (Bickford) Beresford.
Ken was born in Nanaimo and after his father's death in 1958, the family moved to North Vancouver in 1963.
His first career was in banking with a short youthful term at RBC, followed by 32 years at Toronto Dominion recommending branch locations. During his time at TD, Ken also finished a BA in Urban Geography at UBC. His last bank position was in customer service, retiring young in 2000. Ken then pursued a career in the tourism industry, working on the Rocky Mountaineer Whistler train for 16 years, and city tour guiding with various tour companies. As President and on the executive he was active with the Canadian Tour Guide Association of BC for 18 years. He found joy in sharing his love of history and local stories with tourists from all over the world. His sense of humour and wit were enduring; his smile and warmth made Vancouver a brighter place.
He contributed much to his community, being a life time member of Kinsmen (as President and other Executive positions), and in Knights of Columbus, as Grand Knight, and Faithful Navigator serving various charities on the North Shore through Holy Trinity and St. Stephen’s Parish. He was a devoted Catholic seeking study of the bible and religious history. His love for communication found an outlet in Toastmasters, including a role as club president.
An avid outdoorsman, he shared many hikes, ski and cycling trips with friends and family. Walking tours in England were special highlights that connected Ken to family history. Other highlights included travelling to Europe, especially Rome in Italy, Turkey, Mediterranean and Baltic cruises, as well as Quebec to New York. He never stopped, was an amazing husband and father, and will always be missed. He is happy in Heaven now with God and is watching over us. We love you Ken.
