I was shocked and saddened to hear of Ken's passing last month.  Ken and I attended high school together and were in the same graduating class.  We also attended the same church and I was privileged to know his parents and sister as well as Ken.  Ken was always a kind and gentle person who had a great sense of humor.  The last time I saw him was at our 40th high school reunion in 2003.  It was great to see him and you Doreen and to briefly catch up on what was happening in your lives.  My condolences go out to you as a family because I know that Ken will be missed by you and also by your many friends.  It is a comfort to know that Ken is with the Lord and also with his Dad who I'm sure was an inspiration to him over the years.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

So sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I met him many years ago when he worked for Confederation Life. I ran into him and his wife skiing at Grouse Mountain in the late 70's and did not see him again until I contacted him at Roger's Financial when I needed a financial adviser. Nancy and I worked with Ken as our financial advisor since the early 1990's. We admired his calm professionalism, his positive outlook, his humour and his advice. He faced his terminal illness with these same characteristics. We will miss him.

I've met Mr Hawley when I arrived in Vancouver, 25 years ago, with some money to invest.  Our first contact was one of trust, and care ,and if today I have a bit of money,  I can certainly say that it is because of his inspiration and advice. I believe he was the kind of man who welcomed in his office rich and poor people the same way.  I am deeply sorry for his death and I am sure he will be missed.

We never met Ken, but heard so many nice things about him from my mother and father through their financial dealings with him. His name has been one that our five children have known because it represented financial security to them for the future, due to their grandparents' good planning for each of them. Their "Ken Hawley Accounts" have blessed each child as they've become of age. As Christians, we thank God for Ken's life, a life well lived by all that we have heard.  We send our love and condolences to Ken's family from our family here in New Zealand.

I will always remember Ken's smiling face.  He was my Sunday School teacher in the late '70s.  He was a man who's faith made an impact on me as well as just being a great guy.  I still talk about the day he took our entire class out to the Westwood Racetrack.

He was always willing to go the extra mile and his sincerity was evident to all.  My heartfelt condolences to Doreen and the rest of the family.

As a family, you demonstrated the love you have for each other and you are an inspiration to all of us.  Ken was a friend and mentor to me when I lost my husband at age 39 and he helped me to understand the grace of God in difficult times. "Wow!" What an awesome man. What an awesome life.  It seems somewhat foolish to acknowledge this to you ...as you are a huge part of your Dad's/husband's completeness as a man.
"Ken Hawley" is a name that will be remembered forever by his colleagues as synonymous with 'consumate professional' ...'loving and caring friend'.  He inspires us assist others to live life to its fullest and to walk boldly in our Christian faith daily.

I have known Ken for over twenty five years, he always demonstrated his character and faith through all our interactions over these many years.  In his sickness that character and faith was tested and Ken showed the deep faith he had.  Now Ken is with his lord and savoir, he is out of pain.  We will all miss him, but his memory and his strong faith will live on with all who knew him.

It's rare for a person to have a constant smile on their face...we were blessed that we had the pleasure of knowing one of the many few.

Ken Hawley was an inspiration to me. He was a man of courage and conviction who dedicated his life to the service of his King. Ken demonstrated a steady confidence in the goodness of God and even during the darkest hours of his illness he brought hope and encouragement to others. Ken was my financial advisor, a member of my congregation and a friend. I will miss his wise counsel, unflapable temperment and reassuring smile.

I am quite sure Ken never mentioned my name.  We knew each other for only a brief period a couple of years ago on the Finance Committee for MDRT.  There is nothing I can tell you about him that you don't know infinitely better than I.  Ken's smile struck me as being unusually warm and genuine in a world that has become far to callous.  I felt that given closer proximity I would certainly make an effort to know Ken better.  May God hold you in his gentle hands as the grief of his loss visits your life.

I first had the pleasure of getting to know Ken back in our days of Commerce at UBC. Doreen, I then remember the fond memories of meeting you and Ken every Sunday night at West Point Grey Baptist College and Career gatherings and the events involving that group of young people – looking at the pictures reminds me how young Ken looked in those days.

I have always had great respect for Ken’s solid character and his absolute ethics.

Doreen and family -- I have had the great pleasure to serve with Ken on several MDRT committees, most recently last year on Finance.  I had always appreciated his sweet spirit, but it wasn't until after knowing of his illness that I came to find out that it was a sweet Holy Spirit.

I knew Ken fleetingly through CALU and MDRT -- and our first meaningful conversation took place after his diagnosis. I felt his faith, his love, and his gentleness-- and I felt very close to him in those minutes together.

To the Hawley Family -

I knew Ken through over 30 years of participating in the annual MDRT Christian Fellowship Study Group together.  We shared many memories of wonderful Christian teaching and worship together at the Study Group gatherings in different cities each year.   It was my hope and prayer that Ken could have welcomed us in person at this year's Study Group to be held at his Alma Mater, UBC in Vancouver in June.  But that was not to be.  God in his Sovereignty had a higher calling for Ken - to be with Him instead of us this year.   

My fondest memory is of the days Linda and I spent with Ken and Doreen at their home in Vancouver in August, 2005.  We were all sitting on the deck viewing the beautiful scenery when the boat races began on the water below and at the same time a military air show took place in the blue sky above against the backdrop of the majestic mountains.   It was awesome, and we all enjoyed this happening together, even though it was not planned. 

I really appreciated the photo montage provided on this site.  It shows how Ken valued family above other earthly things.   He was truly a fine man, and a good example to all of us in showing us how to die gracefully and never giving up on the hope he had in this life and the next.  Life is short, but Ken made the most of his life in the lives he touched, and he "finished strong" as an example to all of us.  He will be missed, but not forgotten.   You can be proud of the legacy of faith and faithfulness that he has left for your family to relish.
God's blessing on you all during this time of grieving and rejoicing.

Ken and Kirk met a number of years ago through Jim Rogers, and enjoyed many TOT meetings together with our wives Doreen and Sue. Ken was a real gentleman, a caring individual, and highly professional. We loved his laugh and his way of putting people at ease. We'll miss him dearly. Our deepest sympathy to Doreen & family.

Doreen, I don't know if you and I ever met while Ken and I served on the national boards and committees of LUAC (now Advocis). I always enjoyed Ken's sense of humour and he was a delight to work with. Looking through the family picture video, it is quite apparent that he was an even better husband and father. I have known Ken through our industry for many years. Although I never worked with Ken, I had the keen impression that he brought to our industry those traits that we hold in greatest respect. He was a true professional epitomized by sincerity and integrity. He was a real gentleman, and he will be missed by all.

I had the privilege of working with Ken on the CALU board for a couple of years.  He was a wonderful gentleman and great contributor to our profession.  His love for his family and for man kind was evident in all that he did.  We will miss Ken.

My parents, Bob and Dorothy McKeown, were long-time friends and clients of Ken's.  I taught Junior-High Sunday School at West Vancouver Baptist with Ken and sat on the Keats Camp Board when Ken was the chairman.  He was an outstanding, delightful man and will be greatly missed. One of the greatest honors a person can have in life is to know a true man after God's own heart, and my friend, Ken Hawley, was just that - a man after God's own heart.  Thank you Doreen for allowing Ken to be a part of our MDRT study group and by association, my life.  For those of us who loved him there is sadness but for Ken there is great joy for to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD.  Blessings to each of you as we await the day when we will see our brother again.

I grew up a few houses away from the Hawleys in Kelowna and Ken is the first babysitter that I can remember.  When Ken left Kelowna for UBC and then a successful career in the insurance business, my parents always used him as a role model for me.  I did not see Ken until a few years ago when I called him and we had lunch.  I was very impressed by his quiet demeanour and caring understanding of people as he asked numerous questions about my parents and my family.  Just that one lunch with Ken reconfirmed what a great role model he is and why my parents talked about him so frequently.  I wish I had called him years before I did.  My sincere condolences to Mrs Hawley, his family and friends.

I have had the pleasure of calling Ken a friend since we first met at Confederation Life in the late 70's. I always admired his gentle strength and unwavering commitment to his faith, and his family. My life is richer for having known him.
We have lost one of the true gentlemen in our business.

I well remember Ken and Doreen from our days at UBC in the 1960's and at West Point Grey Baptist Church.  They were among the first to get married from that very active College and Career group, a couple all knew were meant for each other.  

Marriage was just one of many things in which Ken led the way.   His quiet manner, inner peace, shy but welcoming smile, wisdom beyond his years, ethical practice, and deep faith were all evident 40 + years ago.  Throughout the intervening years, I was privileged to witness him become truly mature in his faith, a model Christian businessman, surely a "man after God's own heart," a true elder of the larger church family, a humble servant to many, and a man I and others would strive to emulate.  

May God now give Doreen and Ken's family and colleagues, His "peace that passes understanding" as they go through this difficult time of grief.

Ken was my mum and step fathers trusted financial advisor for many many years.  My 83 year old mother often spoke so highly of Ken.  His sage advice and integrity.  Please accept our sincere sympathies and condolences.

I have known Ken from almost the beginning of my life in BC (1969).  He was always such a balanced and positive person.  Our relationship was both personal and professional.  He was an inspiration to many.  His integration of his personal faith, business, and voluntarism was a model for all.  We will miss his wise counsel and warm friendship.

It is with sadness that I received the news of Ken's passing - I only met him as a Rogers' client in the  past three years, but was touched each visit by Ken's compassion and care for me as a person, not just a client. He spoke openly of his faith and prayer, and I have been praying for him over here (in France). I will continue to pray for you as a family in your loss, and thank you for the example you have been of family love and support. In prayer -

My wife Velma and I were privileged to to meet Ken in 1992 as we sought guidance in the management of our financial affairs. We were immediately impressed with his quiet,cordial and professional manner, with the result that we embarked upon a business relationship without hesitation. 
As the years passed, it became much more than strictly business, as we shared life's experiences with him at each of our visits to his office at Rogers Group. Ken was always anxious to learn of our travels, our plans for the future, while at the same time sharing his personal feelings coupled with his sound advice. I was always amazed at how quickly Ken responded to my e-mails; I admired his dedication and valued his advice.  He was such a gentleman.  I will miss his warm smile.  My deepest condoleances to his family.

Ken was the ultimate gentleman, both in business and on a personal level.
Our relationship allowed me to trust. Not an easy feat in todays world.
He advised wisely,without self-interest, and mentored Mark in a way that will serve him well in the future.
I will truly miss Ken's infectious smile and sound wisdom. I know that when I speak with Mark in the future, I will always be getting a little bit of Ken and his ethics thrown into the conversation.

I knew Ken for the past 7 years but have learnt so much from him.  He was an amazing individual and one of the few people in the world who can take a terminal illness so positively.  The trust and faith he had in God Almighty is admirable and will be rewarded to him 100 times in heaven.

Ken was my role model in coping with my serious illness last year when I was told by doctors that I will not be able to walk again.  Ken has made a huge impact in my life about how I think and react with others around me.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Ken was such a support to me after my sisters death.  He truly loved his family and it showed always with what he did.
