

Ernest was born March 23, 1926 in Florien LA. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was an operator at PPG Industries for 22 years, then became a life insurance salesman until his retirement.
Ernest was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was very patriotic and dearly loved his country. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing music on his guitar and singing, whether it was at church or at home. As an active member of Gateway Church Of God, he was very involved with the music ministry of the church. His pleasant and cheerful nature was based on his love for God and his faith in Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior.
Ernest was a life member Mason and was a past Master of the Westlake Masonic Lodge #443. He was also active in Scouting with Troop 88 of Westlake.
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Hanberry Mothershed of Westlake; two sons, Kevin J. Mothershed and wife, Marla of DeQuincy and Merrick R. Mothershed and wife, Jan of Belle Chasse, LA; three grandchildren, Holly Mothershed and fiancé, Matthew Webb, Jordan Mothershed and Dustin Mothershed; two brothers, Robert L. Patrick of DeQuincy and Doyle Patrick of Sacramento CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Gertie Arthur Mothershed and step-father, Robert E. Patrick.
The family would like to thank all of the relatives, friends and area churches for their prayers and support.
They would also like to thank all the staff at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital that waited on him during his illness and to Drs. Jody George, Albert Chinn and Muhammad Khan for their acts of sympathy, kindness and professionalism that so helped the family through this difficult time.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10am Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Gateway Church of God of Moss Bluff. The Rev. Richard Watson-pastor, Charles Willis and Rocky East will officiate. Visitation will begin Wednesday, 5pm-9pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake and resume Thursday 9am until service time at the church. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.
