George was a United States Air Force Veteran during the Korean War. He retired from Conoco Refinery after over 30 serving as an Operator. George was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, Westlake, La. He proudly served with the Calcasieu Council on Aging as a driver for Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Lake Area Runners Club, member of Ward 4 Recreation Board in Westlake serving in various positions and was an avid sports participant and fan. He loved puzzles, traveling, playing tennis and watching the Atlanta Braves.
George was preceded in death by his Parents, Lee and Jennie Ackleson, Sons, Thomas Ackleson and Michael Ackleson, Brother, Ed Ackleson, Grand Daughter Jessica Mills and Great Grandson Chance.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 Years, Thelma Craig Ackleson of Westlake, La., Daughter, Judy Vander Luit and husband Martin of Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, Daughter-In-Law, Diane Ackleson of Lake Charles, La., Sister, Nancy Mason of Ridley Park, Pa., 5 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 21, 2022, from 2:00 PM until time of service. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel, Westlake, with Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux officiatiing. Cremation was entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake.
