Jerry was in Barcelona on leave from Germany around 1966.  I was stationed in Spain in the AF and was in Barcelona to collect a prisoner from the Guardia Civille, which required an overnight stay.  As I’m checking into a hotel on Las Ramblas, I see Jerry towering over a group of guys also checking in.  We partied most of the night.  Great guy!!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jerry and his family at this difficult time,  may your hearts fill with  warmth of love and the many memories you may laugh at one day and enjoy, feeling his love in your hearts…Charlie and I are here for you Cindy, big huggs and much love, the “Mouton’s”

To uncle Jerry , I’ll remember your kind and friendly personality . We always enjoyed coming to family gatherings at you and aunt Cyndi’s house on Good Friday’s for crayfish boils for years . Pawpaw Jerry, 
I only have one biological grandparent left and always considered you my own. I cherish every conversation we had together: trucks, sports, woodworking, fishing, history, favorite Louisiana style cooking, or anything going on in my personal life. I am grateful to have such a caring, honest, and loving role model. You were always patient and supportive in my decisions. You always listened and made it a priority to have meaningful conversations. A few great memories I had with you…

-Going to Bourbon street with you, grandma Cindy, and Tuesday to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary 
-trying all sorts of seafood for the first time with you
-being “3 sheets to the wind” in front of you, grandma Cindy, and Tuesday 
-having “you” there for our wedding
-seeing you enjoy your great grandson and great granddaughters 
-showing me your sanctuary aka wood working shop
-taking me for a spin in the Mustang
-talking about your newest edition “Ford Maverick”
-offering me countless advice
-sharing a ride to the Gulf of Mexico
-going on dog walks during your visits to KS
-being comfortable enough to tell you my personal struggles
-showing me how to be supportive towards Tuesday
-spending all the holidays together
-trying boudin (and loving it!)

I’m going to miss you dad. You raised me as your own and I knew no difference. I always knew if I needed to talk you would listen and give the best advice. You made sure I knew you were so proud of me and that you loved me. You took such good care of my mom and loved her unconditionally.  My heart hurts and I pray we will be together again ❤️.

“Hey, girl” the first the he said every time we talked. “Alright, girl” the last thing he said when we hugged goodbye. It’s hard to put into words a lifetime of memories. To sum up all you taught me and gave me. You stepped in to raise my mom. You supported and loved unconditionally my grandmother through all the battles of her youth, cancer, and beyond. 
My pawpaw Jerry was the best man.
He didn’t let anything distract him from the true values of life. He lived simply. 

He was a book lover. Rivaling my own passion for books. We talked for hours about our favorite books. He’s the only person to ever indulge me and let me prattle on and on about the backstories and histories and every detail about every book I’ve ever read. He remembered every detail I told him too. Because he cared. 

He wanted to know everything about our lives and how we were feeling. He saw the things others sometimes missed about my struggles. When I turned 18, I was sad about something. He saw how I felt and pulled me aside and said, “tell me about that vampire book, twilight, you like.” 

Our favorite thing to do together in Louisiana was to go on rides. He’d say, “let’s go on a ride, anywhere you want to go.” He let me drive his vintage mustang around Louisiana bayous for hours. All the way across the ferry, to the beach, around the marshes and back. Obviously stopping for donuts and boudin on the way home. I was 15 learning how to drive and called me a lead  foot. He said, “Tue, pretend there’s a little chicken egg under that gas, don’t push too hard too fast or it’ll crack.” 

The memories flood back, I know by now enough of loss to anticipate the absolute heartache of hitting the end of those memories with the realization that none more would be made. I wish I could watch the movie of our memories, so that I’d never forget a single one. 

I’m gonna read the books you loved pawpaw, we’ll discuss them at excruciating length in paradise one day.

Graveside Service

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Cynthia “Cyndi” McCain Hubbs, his children; Michael Hubbs, Michelle Leger (Tim), and Renee Meredith (Tim), his granddaughters; Cheyenne Meredith, Tuesday Cobb (Bradford), his great-grandchildren; Casey Cobb, Elsie Cobb, and Lucy Cobb, his two brothers; Robert Hubbs of South Carolina, and Mickey Hubbs of Ohio.


He is preceded in death by his parents Necia and Ed Hubbs, sister Wilda Wendt, and brother Jack Hubbs.
