He was a native of Fenton, was raised in Lake Charles and had been a resident of Westlake for the last 55 years. He was a proud U.S. Air Force Vietnam Veteran. Russell was a member of Gateway Church of God in Moss Bluff. He worked for Cit-Con for 35 years and upon his retirement, he began working for Hixson Funeral Homes where he proudly served for 16 years. He enjoyed fishing, watching football, and spending time with his family who he adored.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ann Occhiogrosso Lavergne of Westlake; his children, Russell Ray "Rusty" Lavergne, Jr. of Gillis, Rebecca Rae "Becca" Lavergne Foy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Jeremy Beau Lavergne of Westlake; and his grandson, Alexander Charles Nicholson of Carlyss. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Batile Lavergne; and a brother, Armond Junior "A.J." Lavergne.
A Celebration of Russell's Life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 11, in Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. The Rev. Richard Rials will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery in Elton. Pallbearers will be Rusty Lavergne, Beau Lavergne, Alex Nicholson, Leon "Tink" Fast, Jr, William "Billy" Fast, Robert Alan "Bobby" Fast, and Cornelius Guillory.
