To the family of Dr. Neal Chadwick,

We are saddened to learn of his passing. When we knew him we just called him Neal and I ( Judy) used to sit beside him in some of our classes at Penn Hills High School. (Due to
the alphabet) We talked all through class. I always got caught!!! He didn’t because he got straight “A’s,” I didn’t. Your husband, father, son was one of the nicest boys in our class. My husband Jim remembers him this way as well. We were in the same graduating class.
 Neal always talked of being a doctor and every once in awhile I wondered if he ever did. I’m so glad he followed his dream. I wish we had stayed in touch because it sounds like my husband and I missed out on knowing a really wonderful man.

We just wanted you to know even these many years after your loss, that for some reason he would float through our thoughts.

He was just one of those guys you liked and wished happiness. How much harder then it was to know that he had to suffer the horrible disease of ALS. We’re so sorry for you all.

We pray you have had joys since the  loss of this kind and considerate person in your life and you have learned well from his life teachings. May the lord bless you!

Chadwick family,
I was so sorry to hear of Dr. Chadwick's passing.  It has been many years since I have seen you, but always enjoyed babysitting for Ashley and Lauren.  It was good practice too since 10 years ago I was blessed with triplet boys.  Dr. Chadwick was a caring person and doctor.  My family's thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

A tremendous loss to family, friends and patients.  Dr. Chadwick would walk into my dads room daily, pull up a chair and sit down and talk about our hometown Steelers.  We are from Pittsburgh.  My dad was recovering from a liver transplant and was at Fairview for quite some time.  Dr Chadwick was an amazing person and an amazing doctor.  When my dad had to re-enter Fairview during a set back, my dad was very pleased (which didn't happen often during his illness) to see Dr Chadwick again.  We were all devasted to hear he had left while my dad was still his patient.  We were even more devasted to hear he had fallen seriously ill.  I am glad he cared for my father like he was his own and I am definitely glad to have known him.  Dr Chadwick and my dad are probably talking about the Steelers right now.

I am sorry to hear of your loss.  Dr. Chadwick took care of my late husband at Fairview Grace Unit after his liver transplant 2 years ago.  He always took time to  talk to him especially about the Steelers, because we were from Pittsburgh.  He always greeted me coming down the hall or getting off the elevator. Though we don't know each other well, you are always so sweet and accomodating, and I wanted to express my condolences to you and your beautiful family regarding the passing of your dad.  You seem like such a closeknit, wonderful family, and I am sure that your dad will be sorely missed by all of you. I've been at Lakewood Hospital since 1972 and remember talking to Dr. Chadwick over the phone or in person and I remember how pleasant he was and what a great Physican he was.May all those wonderful times help sustain you all.

Bravery is not picking a fight with a superior foe hoping to pull out a "David and Goliath" victory.  Bravery is starting a fight you know you've already lost, yet fighting anyway.  Fighting with dignity, strength and class and remaining true to your principles.  Living your faith, loving your friends and family and never selling out on your principles for something as fleeting as fame or fortune.  These are the lessons we learned over many days and months and years from this incredible beacon of a man.  Today is all we're guaranteed, so what are you going to do today?

Mrs. Chadwick and family.  I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  Dr. Chadwick became my Pulmonary Doctor 12 years ago.  At that time my odds of survival were slim to none; but the two of us worked together and along with modern medicine, a few holistic ideas and prayer, I am still here and, at the moment, medication free.  He was such a wonderful doctor and human being.  He listened to what you had to say; remembered what you said and was always extremely compassionate.   So thank you so much Dr. Chadwick for saving my life.  I know that God and Jesus welcomed their new Healing Angel into Heaven with open arms.  God Bless.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I worked with Dr. Chadwick for >20yrs., mostly in sicu. He was not only our director, but our champion. Not only was he an EXCELLENT physician with his patients, but he was also always very wonderful with the staff. He always knew everyone's names, greeted them and knew things about them. He always treated us with such respect.  He spoke of his family often, with great love and he was extremely proud of his daughters. I feel honored to have known him and will continue to miss him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Chadwick Family.  God always puts people in our lives when they are most needed.  Dr. Chadwick was "in place" for both my Mom and Dad.  They passed away 5 weeks apart all most 8 years ago. Dr. Chadwick helped my family say good-bye to my parents with the dignity they deserved and the courage we needed. my husband, greg knittel, has als. greg spent 5 weeks in the grace unit after being vented and trached.  dr. chadwick took care of him.  he was intelligent, thoughtful, kind, and loving.  he once told greg that in his experience it seemed that folks who were stricken with this disease were so often very affable and intelligent people.  how correct he was about both gentlemen.  i saw a photo in the gallery of the doc with dr.jeff galvin.  jeff would visit both men weekly (at least) and carry little messages of support and prayer between them. that was a great blessing. the sympathy and prayers of our family are with you all at this time and in the future. please remember us in prayer as we continue our shared journey. cathy lanning knittel and children

My deepest condolences to the Chadwick family. Dr. Chadwick first treated my dad in the early 80's and was my mother's physician for over 20 years.  Since she was a nurse, she was not always the best patient, but Dr. Chadwick was always managed to get through to her.  Her only regret was that he could not treat her when she went into a nursing home.  A life taken far too soon.  My family's deepest sympathies.

Mrs. Chadwick and family, I am so sorry for your loss.  Your husband, father and son was my husbands physician previous to his death in 1993, but I will always remember how consoling Dr. Chadwick was to me and my son on the day my husband passed and in a few days after when I spoke with him by phone. My sincere condolences to the family of a wonderful man.  My husband was a patient of his for many years.  He was our doctor and friend - and helped me through many difficult times especially until my husband's death -always ready and available.  He loved what he did and helped so many just because of who he was.  I have prayed for him and the family since hearing of his illness and continue to keep you in my prayers as Neal now is at peace and will continue to pray for his eternal rest.

I worked w/ Dr Chadwick for many years & had the utmost respect for his expertise. My mother (an administrator at Fairview) also thought highly of him. My father was a patient & was saddened when he had to change physicians as he trusted Dr Chadwick as did the rest of the family. God be with him and you.
