He was born in Bistrita, Romania of Saxon parents and immigrated to the United States in
1956 at age 12. Peter was salutatorian of his South High School graduating class. He then went to obtain his Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering from The Ohio State University. Peter worked since age 14 at Big Bear Grocery Store in Columbus, through college until the last semester of his schooling. He went on to work at NASA in Cleveland, where he was Associate Director of Science and Technology. He retired from NASA after 41 years. Peter loved his profession and came up with an original computer program, which is still being used today. Peter has given many talks, both in the United States and Europe. He was active in the NASA Ski Club and NASA Softball league and enjoyed going to concerts and traveling to Europe, with his wife Cristiana.
Peter is preceeded in death by his brother Eric Meitner, and parents Ludwig and Anna Meitner. He is survived by his wife Cristiana Boieru M.D., nephew Christopher and niece Jennifer. Also cousins Lisa (Jim), Silvia and Wolfgang (Linda), Karin (Georg), Christiane (Gunther), and Eva.
A visitation for Peter will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 23040 Center Ridge Rd., Westlake, Ohio 44145. Interment will occur Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43223.
