Vincent “Vince” Gangi, 89, passed away peacefully after a long and full life.
Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx, Vince proudly served his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a young man and worked as an aircraft mechanic aboard a carrier during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Afterward, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves in Ohio and later as a volunteer pilot with the Civil Air Patrol in California, giving a total of 16 years to military service.
Vince worked in several fields but spent much of his career in law enforcement, including positions with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, Cleveland Police, Glenn Willow, and eventually in Florida. He and his wife Dorothy made their home in The Villages, enjoying retirement until her passing in 2001.
He later lived in California with his daughter Nina and son-in-law Greg, where he met his longtime companion Shirley Mulford. After her passing, Vince returned to Ohio, where he settled near his daughter Mona and close to his sons Vinny and Jim. In his later years, he was blessed with the companionship and devoted care of Alice Hoban, for whom the family is deeply grateful.
Vince had many passions—aviation, Harley-Davidsons, Cleveland sports, and good Italian food, especially prime rib. Though often seen as tough and old-school, he held a deep faith in Christ that began with a life-changing conversion he and Dorothy shared. His faith shaped him and became an important part of his family’s story.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many who loved him. He is reunited with Dorothy, Shirley, and others who went before him.
