

Cecilia Garcia Solis, loving mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and friend, peacefully entered into eternal rest on August 30, 2012 in Newbury Park surrounded by her family, after fighting valiantly against cancer.
Cecilia was born on July 21, 1947 in San Fernando, Pampanga Province, the Philippines. She was a 1968 graduate of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, where she majored in Biochemistry. In 1969, she immigrated to Waterbury, Connecticut where she began her career as a Medical Technologist.
In 1972, she moved to Thousand Oaks and began working at Damon Reference Laboratory in Newbury Park. Cecilia was a resident of Ventura County for 40 years and was very active in the Filipino American community of Conejo Valley.
Lola, Tita Cecy, Ma, Mother, Momma, Asawa, Ning – no matter what name she was called by, we all have fond memories of her. Cecilia is survived by her husband of 37 years, Segundino (Dino); daughter and son-in-law, Maria Theresa and Michael Metz and grandchildren, Donovan and Mahalia; daughter and son-in-law, Deborrah and Jason Miyagishima and grandchild, soon to arrive; and son Dennis (D.J.) Solis. She is also survived by her sisters, Florentina Garcia Manganti, Iluminada Garcia Cruz, Zenaida Garcia Keeler, Alicia de Vera Garcia, and Irma de Vera Garcia; and ten nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Nelson de Vera Garcia. She leaves behind many other friends she had made throughout her life.
A Vigil will be held on Friday, Sept. 7th from 5pm to 9pm. The Prayers of the Novena and Divine Mercy and the Rosary will occur at 6:15pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church in Newbury Park on Saturday, Sept. 8th at 11:30. Arrangements made with Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary.
Theresa and D.J. have been planning to do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Santa Barbara September 22-23 to honor their mother’s cancer journey; now, it will be to walk in her memory.
