Gene Alfred Cooper

Gene graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1958 with a bachelor’s in science and the University of Toledo in 1960 with a master’s in business administration. He was a certified public accountant in Ohio, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Gene worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Westinghouse Beverage Group from 1969 to 1989, retiring as a senior vice president and controller. From 1990 to 1994 Gene became the controller for Custom Building Products. Gene is a retired dean of finance and administration and chief financial officer from Marymount College from 1995 – 2001. Gene was an accounting professor at Bowling Green State University, Rider College, and the University of Phoenix, ending his teaching career in 2014. Gene was affiliated with many universities, as he was chief accountant at Princeton University, controller at Kenyon College and graduate assistant at the University of Toledo.

Gene, along with his wife Carol were actively involved in the United Methodist Church in Westlake Village. Gene’s hobbies included playing tennis at the Wildwood tennis courts, genealogy, and his passion for sports, especially baseball.

Gene’s parents were, his father, George Wayne Cooper (9/15/1910 – 2/13/1999) and mother, Agnes Anibel Fisher Cooper (12/22/1916 – 5/26/2006).

Gene is survived by his wife Carol Cooper, brother Ken Cooper, who Gene communicated with daily, his two sons Steven Cooper and Jeffrey Cooper, along with Steven’s spouse Michelle and two children Caitlin and Molly and Jeff’s spouse Jessica and sons Davis and Mason along with Jeff’s stepchildren Jonah and Ava.

The family would like to thank the healthcare providers and caregivers that showed compassion and love for Gene in his final days, especially Lucy Fernandez for taking such good care for both Gene and Carol from 2020 through 2024.

Family and friends are invited to attend Gene’s service at Pierce Brother’s in Westlake Village on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 10:00 am. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 am.
