Herta Waunita Hopper was born in Andrews, South Carolina in 1937. She passed away in January of this year at her home in Jacksonville, Florida, the city in which she grew up. She moved back to Jacksonville after her husband, Chester, passed away 18 years ago to be near her siblings.
Although she passed away in Florida, she spent the majority of her life in Southern California where she lived with Chester as they began and raised their family.
Herta excelled at all tasks she took on. She was an avid baker and always loved sharing her delicious treats with friends and family. She took home many 1st place awards from the Ventura County Fair. Herta also enjoyed cake decorating, doll making, sewing and square dancing. There were many birthdays and holidays that benefited from her custom cakes/goodies or handmade costumes. She managed the snack bar for Simi Boys Baseball through the 60s and spent time as a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts.
While everyone who knew Herta will miss her greatly, we are so glad to have had her as our wife, mother, gram, sister and auntie. Herta is back with the love of her life, Chester Sr, who she missed immensely.
She is survived by her sons, Chester Hopper Jr., Jeff Hopper (Laura); grandchildren, Jeff Hopper II, Nicole Hopper; brothers and sisters, Frances Green, Nathan Green, Bobby Green, Karen Stockholm, Dorothy (Dot) Caldwell; and husband, Spencer Kitchens. Thank you for being the best, we love you.
