James Russell York, 73, of Moorpark, CA, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Thousand Oaks, California. Jim was born November 28, 1945 to Raymond and Eleanor York in Saginaw Michigan. He was the youngest of three children, brother to Richard and Robert, predeceased in infancy.
Jim earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Northridge in Anthropology after a very creative use of eight years. During his college years he loved playing pool and even got a job at a pool hall. He also was very active in his fraternity Pi Kappa Tau which later affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Mid Valley College of Law earning Valedictorian honors. He went on to practice law for 35 years primarily in civil defense litigation representing large corporate entities, major insurance providers, as well as public governmental agencies.
Jim was married to Lori York on June 24, 1989 and was blessed with almost 30 years of marriage. Jim was the proud parent of two daughters, one stepson and two grandchildren at the time of his passing.
Jim is best remembered for his quiet and distinguished nature, passion for the law, as well as his love for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers! Throughout his life he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and simply relaxing in front of his TV enjoying his favorite snacks. In his most recent and final years, he enjoyed brunch at the Moorpark Country Club, attending little league baseball games and babysitting his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife Lori, daughters, Melissa York, Kady (Koby) Bechor, stepson Chad (Jen) Charton, grandchildren Jack and Summer, and brother Richard (Mary) York who will miss his presence deeply.
