Born and raised in Michigan, Joanna Stone relocated to Southern California with three Alpha Gamma Delta sorority sisters, following graduation from Michigan State University in 1950. With majors in English and Journalism, and a secondary teaching credential, she briefly worked at the L.A. Times where she met, and later married Earl M. Stone, who preceded her in death after 59 years in 2010. Also preceding her in death, in 2011, was their eldest child, daughter, Hillary, who had become an avid horsewoman, and their youngest child, son, Paul who passed in March of this year.
Both Joanna and Earl were Directors of the California Saddle Horse Breeder’s Association, and Joanna was also West Coast Representative for National Horseman Magazine published in Louisville, KY.
For 25 years, Joanna was employed by the Conejo Valley Unified School District as an Instructional Media Technician, first at Walnut Elementary School and then at Redwood Intermediate.
Surviving is son, Steve (wife, Cindi), daughter-in-law, Helen, of Moorpark, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
