

Karen Leslie Stevens of Agoura Hills, California, loving wife and mother, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the age of 69. She was born on August 25, 1954, in Los Angeles, California and was raised in the Hawthorne area, the youngest of three daughters.
She graduated from Leuzinger High School, Hawthorne, CA in 1972 (summa cum laude), Cal State Long Beach ’76 (BA), San Jose State ’78 (MA) and UCLA School of Law ’83 (JD).
Karen worked as an attorney in the legal specialty of workers’ compensation, representing both injured workers and later employers, insurance carriers and municipalities. She was known in the community for passionately representing her clients while remaining cordial and professional. She held a partnership position while representing Zurich American Insurance Company for many years and was one of the pioneering women in the field.
She was actively involved in advocating for the rights of women and minorities, especially the Native American nations. She cared for the environment and loved animals, including the many pet cats she gave homes to throughout her life. Karen found immense joy in spending time with her children and traveling the southwestern United States, Ireland and Scotland. She lived for listening to her favorite Jackson Browne or Dwight Yoakum songs and singing and dancing to classic rock and Irish music. Karen was a devoted fan of baseball, the Angels, and all her Angel fan friends. She is remembered for the infectious joy she brought to all with her love of life and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff of Meadowbrook Senior Living and The Colony of Thousand Oaks Venus Street for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents Barbara Nelson Stevens and Bradley Young Stevens, Jr. and her sister Patricia Marilyn Rademacher.
She is survived by their husband David Brent Brotman, son Alex Bradley Stevens Brotman, daughter Jessica Brooke Stevens Brotman and sister Suzi Klein; nephew Jeffrey Alan Guttig, niece Leslie Suzanne Murrin, a maternal aunt and many cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks- Griffin Memorial Park, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA on February 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Interment to follow service.
