Mr Fikaris was such a huge part of my childhood, with his amazing stories and caring for people. I never did well in school but Mr Fikaris never gave up on me.  When I messed up in school, he was tough and I  had to copy dictionary pages, which he checked and if you missed anything, he would add another page to copy, and when I did good, we went to Taco Bell. I learned a lot of life lessons and will never forget him.

I'm so sorry. I just learned of Luke's passing. I'm happy I was able to speak with him one last time before he passed. I'll miss reminiscing with him about his times growing up with my father. He always had great stories. Best wishes to you all.

Mr. Fikaris was my 5th grade teacher, yes in room 501 too. There are not many teachers I can say that I'm fond of, but I have so many great memories while in his class. I visited him often after leaving elementary school; he joined my mom and step dad at my high school graduation. I know he kept track of a lot of us that took the difficult path; he was such a compassionate person. I will miss him, I was blessed to have him in my life. Peace Mr. Fikaris, may God's light always shine upon you.

Thirty years after having Mr. Fikaris as my 6th grade teacher, I still remember him, his wonderful stories, his punishments for bad behavior and his rewards for good behavior. You could tell that not only did he love teaching, but he loved kids. I was so blessed to have had him as my teacher and the impact he had on my life.

Mr. Fikaris was the best teacher, motivator and mentor I have ever had.  I am forever grateful for the time that we spent together.  I am a teacher today because he first saw it in me.  Words cannot express the impact he has had on the life that I am able to live today and so many others who sat in room 501.  He was a maverick in his field with a heart of gold and infectious sense of humor.  I will continue to teach my students the way that he taught me, with love, compassion, humor and the highest of expectations.  Mr. Fikaris was truly one of a kind and I will dearly miss our phone calls, lunch dates and time together.

I have known Luke's wife, Kathy, for over 52 years, and Luke since almost the first time they went out.  He was her "Champion" from the first time he saw her, and his devotion to her was wonderful to behold.  Together they traveled the world, and his career as a teacher, which Kathy virtually insisted he pursue, was the most satisfying work he had ever done.  His students loved him, and he influenced many lives for the better.  He fought to stay alive to watch over Kathy.  I will miss him.

Dear Michael,
My condolences to you and your family.  His instructions to you on his death are so quintessentially Luke.  It put a smile on my face.
I remember your father as a generous, good-natured soul with a great sense of humor.  He was a real firecracker in the best sense of the word.  He loved his family, he loved his wife, and he loved life.
I am grateful for the 16 years I knew him.
