Michaelangelo “Mike/Michan” Cuenco of Fillmore, California, passed away on April 2, 2026, at the age of 52. Born on December 9, 1973, in Manila, Philippines, Mike lived a life powered by joy, purpose, and an uncanny ability to make everyone around him feel lighter — even on the heaviest days.
Mike spent many years as a Bakery Manager at Costco Wholesale, where he was not only a valued associate but a friend to all who worked with him. If there was laughter coming from the bakery, odds were good that Mike was involved. He believed in hard work, good people, and the magic of a perfectly pinched croissant.
Above all else, Mike was devoted to doing anything — absolutely anything — that made his wife and kids happy. Whether it was a spontaneous adventure, a goofy joke, or a quiet moment of encouragement, he poured his whole heart into the people he loved. To many, he was the “light that will never go out,” and he proved that every single day.
He is survived by his wife Wendy, his son Dean, his daughter Maya, his siblings Candy and Marc, and his parents Jun and Daisy. He also leaves behind his in‑laws Ruth, Jerry, Eric and David, his loyal dogs London and Max, and countless friends, coworkers, and strangers‑turned‑family who were lucky enough to cross his path. He is preceded in death by many cancer warriors that lost their battle before him. His faith was a strong component of his strength and tenacity and we know he has entered heaven alongside his fellow cancer warriors, his loyal dogs Atilla and Wags, and his precious Ima, who lovingly referred to Michan as her favorite grandson.
His brother Marc said it best: Mike wasn’t just a person — he was a verb. He was action. He was energy. He was positivity, friendship, love, faith, resilience, and tenacity all rolled into one unstoppable force. Plus lets not forget he was the wing king, the rock, the mayor of Melray, and the medical mystery.
Mike battled colon cancer for 2,336 days with the same determination he brought to everything else in life. His family would like to thank his dedicated UCLA medical dream team for always pushing the limits and trusting Mike to tell them exactly what he could handle — which, in classic Mike fashion, was usually “more than anyone expected.”
Though he has left this world, the joy he sparked, the optimism he spread, and the love he gave so freely will continue to ripple outward. Mike lived big, loved big, and left a legacy that refuses to dim.
