

Morris attended Freed Hardeman and Abilene Christian Colleges. He received a Bachelor of Arts (1954) and Bachelor of Divinity (1958) at Butler University, and his Ph.D. from Wayne State in 1967.
Morris started preaching for the Church of Christ at the age of 17 and continued for over 50 years. He preached in the states of California, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin.
Morris worked at Pepperdine University from 1967-1999, first as an administrator, and then for 30 years as a Professor in the Communication Division. He published more than a dozen books - the one that gave him the most pride was “Learning to Live from the Parables.” Morris also worked as a visiting professor for the LA Sheriff’s Department and was a member of the Master Planning Committee for LEEP (Law Enforcement Education Program), a Pepperdine graduate program which assisted policemen and district attorney personnel. Morris took great pleasure in his role as Chaplain for the Pepperdine basketball team.
Morris was an active member of the Simi Valley Church of Christ where he preached for many years. He was also a loyal member of the Optimists Club. Morris enjoyed playing golf, traveling, woodworking, and spending time with friends and family.
Morris is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ada Womack; his children and their spouses, Dick and Ella Womack, and Leanne and George Neilson; step-grandsons Bernie Guiang and Scott Neilson; step-great-grandson Luke Neilson; and brother, Arsey Womack. He was preceded in death by his son, Jim; sister, Edith; and brother, Harold.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, at the Simi Valley Church of Christ on Sinaloa Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in Morris’ name.
