Trent Edward Jones, age 62, passed away at his cherished home in Santa Monica, California, on June 9th, 2025, after three years living with advanced liver cancer. Trent spent his final month surrounded by his family and wrapped in love and deep gratitude.
Born on October 10, 1962, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Walter Leonard Jones and Ida Amanda Pruitt, Trent was a boy brimming with energy and curiosity. He sang the solo at his kindergarten graduation, taught himself guitar as a young teen, and was a star of his high school basketball team in New Boston, where he’d moved to live with his beloved Grandma Pruitt.
In his twenties, Trent earned a B.A. in History from Ohio University and spent a year living with his Aunt Sissy in the present-day Congo, working as a bus/ambulance driver and photographer. He then lived in Tempe, Arizona, with his eldest brother Tom for four years, acting in theater productions and working at the local bookstore. In 1991, Trent moved to LA to chase a dream, graduating with a Master of Arts in Radio & Television from USC Annenberg in 1993, while beginning his career as an intern at Warner Bros.
In 1994, Trent was set up on a blind date with his soul mate and lifelong partner, Francie Calfo. They were married in 1996 and had three children, his pride and joy.
Trent was promoted to the Head of Current Programs at Warner Bros., a position he held until 2001. The rest of his career he spent working on various projects as an independent writer and producer for film and television. After retiring pre-pandemic, he wrote a memoir chronicling his life and upbringing, one of the proudest gifts he left his children.
Trent touched the lives of many, pouring his heart into his family, friends, and community, whether as a coach of his children’s sports teams, a gracious host of Medicine Stories retreats, or a dedicated contributor to numerous social causes.
Since 2010, Trent served as Chairman of the Men’s Leadership Council supporting the UCLA Rape Treatment Center and Stuart House. He founded, organized, and hosted the Foundation’s annual Conference for Coaches.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ida, and stepmother, Dorothy. He is survived by his wife Francie Calfo; his children, Jackson, Noah, and Anna; and his six siblings, Tom, Melinda, Tim, Terry, Melanie, and Kathy.
In his free time, Trent enjoyed few things more than his James Taylor and Stevie Wonder records, trips to the Santa Monica Farmers Market, and the Cincinnati Reds. Trent will be remembered by many for his witty humor, smiling eyes, and his generous spirit. He was a man who never stopped thinking about how to best care for the people he loved.
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Santa Monica on Saturday, June 28, at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Trent’s honor may be made to the Rape Treatment Center/Stuart House at UCLA Medical Center and to the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation for advanced liver cancer research of Dr. Richard Finn.
