

William (Bill) Arthur Stein of Porter Ranch, California, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at the age of 87. He was born on January 1, 1936 in Los Angeles, and grew up in Altadena, California. Son of the late George J. and Henrietta R. Stein, Bill was the youngest of three brothers.
He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Science for Engineering in 1958.
He worked as a mechanical and electrical engineer and consultant for a number of employers, including Marquardt Aircraft, National Cash Register (NCR), Servo Labs Incorporated (SLI), Cambrian Systems, and the Posey Company. He designed automated inspection equipment, digital displays, computer hard disk drives, devices to distribute rights managed digital media, and medical devices among a great many other things.
He was actively involved in Amateur Radio, a pursuit that put him in contact with people both locally and around the globe. He also was interested in British sports cars, on which he enjoyed and was occasionally frustrated by doing his own mechanical work. He had an enthusiasm for golf, also a source of joy and occasional frustration.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard and Norman, and his wife, Diane Denby Stein.
He is survived by his children, Cindy and Michael, and grandchildren, Megan and Kevin Stein.
The family would like to thank Doctor Jill Brink for the care and compassion she showed Bill in the final years of his life. The family would also like to thank Mr Richard Rosenthal and his office for its long service to the family.
