10/1/1929 – 3/9/2021
In loving memory of Ti Thi Tang, her family is saddened to announce her passing on March 9, 2021 at California, USA. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91.
Ti had lived a long and meaningful life. Born on October 1, 1929 in Saigon, Vietnam as the 12th child of a well to do family in the 1920’s, the time when the notion of a women’s place is in the home, Ti broke tradition and became the only daughter in the family to achieve the most education. She was sent by the Vietnamese government to study abroad and earned her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of the Philippines and subsequently her Master Degree in Library of Science at the University of Michigan, USA. At the time, Vietnam only had one National Library and she became the first woman to work as the chief librarian for the National Library. When she came to the US in 1980, she continued her long professional career as a librarian specializing in cataloging until she retired. During her youth, she travelled extensively to many countries and had learned many different languages. She was fluent in Vietnamese, English, French and acquired a good vocabulary in Spanish, German, Tagalog and even some Chinese. Besides her passion in reading, she was also a budding writer who had written many short fictional stories and translated books of other languages into Vietnamese as hobbies. One of her short stories even received a grand prize in a contest and was printed in a Vietnamese newspaper.
As a gentle, kind-hearted, intelligent, generous, and easy going person , Ti will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her family, friends and those who knew her. She will forever remain in our hearts and her spirit will live on.
“Don’t think of me as gone away. My journey’s just begun. Life holds so many facets. This earth is but one.”
Excerpt from the Poem “My Journey’s Just Begun” by Ellen Brenneman
A funeral ceremony will be held for Ti on Sunday, April 4th, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Peek Funeral Home.
