Albert Green passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 95 years old.
Albert (Al) was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 11, 1929. He graduated from St. Peters College in 1952, where he was captain of the tennis team. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corp during the Korean War, where he trained as a sharpshooter. Al began his career as a sales trainee at American Can in New York, later serving as a product manager at American Hoechst Corporation in Chatham, New Jersey.
In 1956, Al married the love of his life, Martha (Marcie), and they shared a joyful and loving marriage for 69 years. In October of 1960, they moved to Hillsdale, NJ, where they built a life together, raising five children. Al and Marcie were blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will continue for generations. Al and Marcie are long-time parishioners of St. John the Baptist Church in Hillsdale, where Al was a member of the choir for over 60 years. Al’s faith guided him throughout his life. Believing in a strong Catholic education, their children graduated from St. John’s Academy, and all attended Catholic high schools.
Al’s greatest passion, aside from his love for his family, was singing. He began as a boy soprano with the Boys Choir of the Archdiocese of Brooklyn. In addition to the St. John’s choir, Al was a member of the Ars Musica Chorale. With these choral groups, he performed in many iconic venues, including Carnegie Hall and several cathedrals in Europe. One of his proudest moments was singing for Pope John Paul II at Giants Stadium in 1995. Al’s voice also graced many family weddings and special occasions, leaving behind a legacy of music that touched everyone who heard him.
Al was also a passionate sports fan supporting his favorite teams - the Mets, the Giants, the Nets, and the Devils. He remained physically active throughout his life and played tennis and golf well into his retirement years. In fact, it was always a good day on the golf course if you were ‘Al Greened!’ – a term that captured his competitive spirit and love for the game.
Family and friends will remember him for his enthusiasm, energy, and his joy of sharing endless stories of the people he met and the places he visited. These stories, full of life and laughter, will be cherished by his family for years to come.
Al is survived by his wife Martha (nee Sullivan), children: Joanne Malone (Edward), Robert (Lisa), Janet, Carolyn Boris (Paul), and Stephen (Stacey). Grandfather to Kaitlin Moglia (Stephen), Brian Malone (Jessica), Emily Travaglini (Liam), Joseph Green (Adriana), Daniel, Ryan, Emma, Jack, and Kevin Green. Great-Grandfather to Olivia, Isla and Madelyn Moglia, and Maeve and Macklin Malone. Brother to Cynthia, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Albert was predeceased by his loving parents, Catherine and Edward, and his brothers, Howard and Robert.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, NJ on Sunday August 24, 2025, from 3-7 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St John the Baptist Church, in Hillsdale on Monday August 25, at 10:00 AM. The family asks that donations to St. John the Baptist Church be made in lieu of flowers.
