Cathy, or “Sis”, was born in San Francisco, CA on Friday the 13th, in May of 1932 to the late Archibald and Catherine (nee MacLaughlin) Harvey. Less than a year old, her first trip was through the Panama Canal to Brooklyn, NY where she was raised. She graduated top of her class at St. Joseph High School in Brooklyn.
While working as a bank teller in Park Ridge, NJ, Cathy met the love of her life, Jim Bauer. They were married on October 25th, 1953 and she’d want you to know that she weighed only 98lbs on her wedding day. Even with Jim working both the day and night shift, they managed to have five children; Catherine, James, Eileen, Michael and Mary. Starting with nothing but their love, they worked hard, built a wonderful life together, and founded Bauer Garage Doors Corp.
Cathy enjoyed reading mysteries, shopping, chocolate, shopping, crafting, and shopping. She was social butterfly, always at events, lunches, or on the phone with a friend or family. She put her grammatical skills to work as an Officer Manager for Noyes Publications in Park Ridge, NJ and volunteered for many years with Pascack Valley Hospital.
Cathy was committed to her community. She served as an inaugural women’s softball coach in the Montvale Athletic League, Girl Scout Leader, and was a homeroom mother for all five of her kids. A staunch Democrat, Cathy was a member of the Montvale Democrats and served as a delegate in the 1976 Democratic Primary.
Cathy enjoyed evenings out with Jim, visiting their favorite restaurants, and dancing the night away to Mike Byrne singing their song, Danny Boy.
Catherine will be remembered for her sparkle and wit; the living embodiment of a fiber-optic Christmas tree that tells dirty jokes. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, and often did. She was never happier than when she was surrounded by family, friends and lots of laughter.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Bauer, her children Catherine Allison, James (Janice) Bauer, Eileen Moore, Michael Bauer, and Mary (Ed) Burtis; her grandchildren Richard (Alexandra) Allison, Jillian (Dustin) Allison-Warrington, Jack Bauer, Joshua (Kristin) Bauer, Michael (Catherine) Bauer, Martin (Danielle) Bauer, Amanda (Benjamin) Puff, and Travis Bauer; and her great-grandchildren Penelope and James Puff, and Frederick Warrington, with one more on the way. Cathy is also survived by her siblings Mary, Beatrice and Patrick. She is preceded in death by her siblings Georgina, John and Gerard, and her son-in-law Philip Moore.
And I shall hear tho' soft you tread above me
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me
