

Catherine Mary Wanner, 90, of Emerson, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Catherine was the faithful wife of Joseph Wanner, who predeceased her, for 61 years. Catherine graduated from Cathedral High School in New York City in 1944, working for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps, making parachutes for the war effort. Catherine was an executive secretary at New Yorker Magazine and Thorpe Sporting Goods, equipment provider for the NY Football Giants. Catherine wed Joseph Wanner in 1950, moving to her present home in Emerson in 1953. She was a 50-year member of the Assumption RC Church Choir in Emerson, and a former trustee of the Emerson Senior Club. While raising four children, Catherine graduated from Bergen Pines Hospital as an LPN, then later attended Helene Fuld School of Nursing, obtaining her RN in 1977. Catherine was an Assistant Head Nurse at Bergen Pines until her retirement in 1987. Catherine was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Harrington Park. She celebrated her Irish heritage by a love of step dancing and Irish music. She is survived by her children, Robert Wanner and his wife Rhodora of Bergenfield, NJ, Nancy Young and her husband Hank of Wurtsboro, NY, Stephen Wanner and his wife Linda of Salisbury, NC, Thomas Wanner of Emerson, NJ, and her sister, Sister Florence Reilly, RSHM, of Tarrytown, NY. She will be sadly missed by grandchildren Erin Contino and her husband Jon, Colleen Young, Michael Wanner and his wife Nicole, Ryan Wanner, Matthew Young, Riley Wanner, and Audrey Wanner, great-grandchildren Fiona Contino and namesake, Catherine Wanner. Visitation will be Sunday 3-7 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. Services will be held 10 AM Monday at Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Harrington Park, NJ. Interment is at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
