May 3, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Dave was a kind-hearted and loving man devoted to his family. His wife Gail and son Derek cared for him in his last days with compassion and kindness and were at his side when he died after a long illness.
The second son of Russell Henry Weigel Sr. and Dorothy Vaughan Weigel of West Hartford, CT.,
Dave graduated from Kingswood School in 1965. He was a terrific high school athlete, anchoring Kingswood’s impressive soccer, wrestling and lacrosse teams during his senior year. Most notably, Dave won the heavyweight division of the 1965 Connecticut Interscholastic Wrestling Association, thereby securing his school the state championship. He graduated from Gettysburg College (PA) in 1969 where he majored in Psychology and was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. After active duty in the Army Reserves, joined Mutual of New York (MONY) and pursued a successful career in insurance and finance in New York City. Appointed Vice President-Treasurer of MONY in 1991, Dave was responsible for the company’s banking relationships, cash management and securities custody functions. Dave enjoyed his profession and fulfilled a demanding role with diligence, integrity and enthusiasm. He retired from that post in 2006.
Dave was avid golfer and played top courses, quite well, throughout the United States. He was a gentle and playful man, singularly dedicated to his family near and far. An exemplary son, husband, father, friend and uncle, David’s presence will forever prompt memories of fun and inspiration among all those who knew and loved him.
Dave is survived by his wife Gail Peterson Weigel and son Derek R. Weigel, both of Hillsdale, New Jersey; his brother Russell Weigel Jr. and sisters in-law Jane Reynolds Weigel, of South Dartmouth MA and Dorothy “Darby” Swan Weigel of Norfolk, Connecticut. He was predeceased by both his parents and his younger brother, Gary V. Weigel, of West Hartford, CT.
