Born March 2, 1928, in Ramnicu Valcea, Romania, Dorotea immigrated to New York in 1958 to escape communism in Eastern Europe. She proudly worked at the Stella D’Oro Cookie factory in the Bronx, while living near the Botanical Gardens. She met her future husband, Vasile Barbulescu, also a newly arrived immigrant from Romania and they married in 1960 and settled in Brooklyn. Both she and her husband came to this country with nothing and exemplified the American Dream. A dream and a work ethic that manifested itself in their daily gratitude and love for this country. Despite a sixth grade education, sixteen years after her arrival, she purchased and operated Dotty’s Bar and Grill in Brooklyn, retiring to Florida twenty years later. Her success was a great source of pride for herself and the family as she was considered the Matron and a strong woman role model for family and friends. Besides her success as a business woman, and devoted wife to Vasile Barbulescu who predeceased her in 1991, she was a beloved mother to Gregory Halitov (predeceased), Constantin Barbulescu and Janetta Trochimiuk (nee Barbulescu).
Loving grandmother to Alexia Halitov, Daniella D’Urso (nee Pascaru) and David Pascaru, Olivia and Lauren Barbulescu and Nicholas and Natalia Trochimiuk. Great-grandmother to Gianna D’Urso.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was interred next to her beloved husband Vasile, at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Queens, New York.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Becker-FuneralHome.com for the Barbulescu family.
