Frank L. Barker III passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the age of 92. Frank was born in Elizabeth N.J. on April 8, 1933, to Frank L. Barker Jr. and Marcel (Langdon) Barker. He was the oldest of 3 boys. He is predeceased by both his parents and his brothers Charles and Michael. Frank was a graduate of Roselle Park High School in 1951 and earned a B.A. from Yale University in 1955.
Frank patriotically served his country from 1955-1957 in Korea. After the service he went back to school attending Columbia Law school - ultimately deciding Law school was not his forte he began a career with American Express serving in a variety of roles in the new credit card division. While at American Express he met his wife Virginia (Sorbello) "the best decision I ever made’’. They settled in Emerson where they raised their four children. Frank IV (Chip), Douglas, Suzanne, and Melissa. Frank often said their timing was impeccable as the friends and times they experienced during their children's formative and high school years were second to none. After 54 years in Emerson, Frank and Virginia moved to the Township of Washington, N.J. where he spent the final years of his life eventually passing on February 10, 2026.
Frank was an avid sports fan rooting for the Mets -formerly a Dodgers fan and gently pushing all his children to get involved in sports for the life lesson it taught – always being exceptionally proud of their accomplishments on and off the field.
Frank had his own hobbies including bowling (years ago), he loved crossword puzzles, cards, collecting coins, baseball cards, and paper weights. Always trying his luck with a scratch off lottery ticket! His greatest accomplishment beyond marrying Virginia was his four children and his grandchildren (all 9 of them). He took great pride in attending their activities and watching them become who they are today.
He is survived by his wife Virginia – his son Frank L. Barker IV (Chip) of Ridgewood, N.J. and his children Frank L. Barker V (CJ), Olivia, and Chelsea; his son Douglas of Centennial, Colorado and his children Huntley and Virginia (Ginny). His daughter Suzanne Korb (Dan) of Morristown N.J.– her children Margaret (Maggie), George and Ryan of Morristown, N.J., his daughter Melissa Cherven (Kevin) of Montvale, N.J., and their son Carson. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews and their children.
A wake will be held on Friday, February 13th from 4-8pm at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, N.J. and a Mass Service at Church of the Assumption in Emerson, N.J. on Saturday, February 14th at 10am.
