

Honorable Charles “Chuck” Edmund Powers, Jr. was born to Charles and Helene Powers on November 29th, 1948. He attended Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island and graduated in 1967. He then went on to graduate from The College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1971. He married his wife Lorraine(nee Holler) in 1971. Charles attended Fordham University Law School and received his Juris Doctorate in 1974. He then went on to serve in the United States Navy in the U.S. Court of Military Appeals and earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After his service in the Navy, Charles joined the law firm Weintraub, Abrams and Powers, where he served as a civil litigator until 1987. In 1988, he joined the firm Harwood Lloyd, where he worked as an attorney until his appointment as a judge to the Vicinage 2 Superior Court in Bergen County, New Jersey, where he held an assignment in the Civil Division. Charles was an avid golfer. He spent much of his free time playing golf with his friends at Knickerbocker Country Club, where he was a member for thirty years. He also loved music,; his taste ranged from classical to classic rock. He also enjoyed vacationing with his family at the Jersey Shore, South Carolina and Florida. Charles is survived by his wife Lorraine, his daughter Courtney(Thomas), his sons Ryan and Sean(Tara), and his grandchildren Isabella, Tyler, Brandon, Benjamin, Megyn and Sophia.
