Jean Ruth Freedman

Jean Ruth (nee Ottoson), 72, formerly of Hillsdale, NJ passed away on July 9, 2013, after a multi-year battle with inclusion body myositis (IBM), a rare form of muscular dystrophy. She died peacefully with family beside her in San Diego, CA. Jean is survived by her daughters Sandra of Louisville, KY and Susan of San Diego; her siblings Janice, Bob and Judy; and grand-kitties Sassy and Sasha. Jean’s wish was for her ashes to be interred with her loving husband Alan, who passed away in 2004.

Jean was born on August 12, 1941 in the Bronx. She resided in Hillsdale from 1970-2008, where she enjoyed raising her family. Jean was a long-standing member of the Hillsdale Women’s Club and served as president in the 1980s. She also served as troop leader for her daughters’ Brownie and Girl Scout Troops in the 1970s and early 1980s.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held Friday, September 19 at 1:00 pm at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. There will be a repast following the service at Biagio's Restaurant at 299 Paramus Road. Arrangements are by Becker Funeral Home in Westwood.
