Joan Thalmann, 92, of Washington Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 28, 2026. Joan was born in Cliffside Park, NJ, where she lived for 33 years. Following her time there, she moved to Ridgefield Park, NJ, where she resided for 20 years. In 1987, Joan and her family moved to Washington Township where she stayed until her final day.
Joan was preceded in death by her devout husband John Thalmann who passed away in 2018, her parents Amelia and Lawrence Mazzei, and her brother Dr. Lawence Mazzei. She is survived by her loving daughter Melissa, her devoted son-in law-David, and her cherished grandsons Brian and Eric.
After graduating business school, Joan was the executive secretary for Conde Nast Publications in New York City, a role she remembered fondly. She remained in that role until she and John started their family.
Joan was known for her wit, amazing memory, and devotion to her family – especially her grandsons. She was happiest attending their sporting events, school events, graduations, and when spending time with them. To say they were her pride and joy is an understatement.
The Family will receive friends on February 2, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. at Our Lady Mother of the Church 209 Woodcliff Ave., Woodcliff Lake, NJ 07677. A mass celebrating Joan’s life and faith will follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to either of the following organizations, which are near and dear to her grandsons Brian and Eric.
The WillPower Foundation or The Children’s Dyslexia Centers
