

DONOVAN, John Paul, 89, of Emerson, NJ, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011. John was born in Brooklyn, NY to Timothy and Katherine Donovan. He was a devout Catholic and current parishioner of Church of the Assumption. John graduated from Fordham University and received his DDS from The University of Pennsylvania. Following graduation he proudly served his country during the Korean War in the US Navy as a medical officer with the Fleet Marine Force. John practiced Dentistry in Brooklyn and Tarrytown, NY. He later received a MLS degree and started a second career as a librarian eventually rising to become the Director of the Pompton Lakes Library. John raised his family in Ossining, NY. A loving, widowed father, he will be greatly missed by his three daughters and family. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (nee Cassidy). Devoted father of Dr. Claudia Donovan (Metter) and her husband Karl of Alexandria, VA, Marcia DeSalvo and her husband Robert of Emerson, NJ, and Claire Long and her husband Daniel of San Diego, CA. Beloved brother of the late Mary Meyer of Rye, NY, Marion Donovan of Norfolk, CT, and Dr. Ruth Donovan (Ruth) of Rye, NY. Loving grandfather of Jessica and Maxwell Metter, Megan and Brenna DeSalvo, and Kaitlin, Courtney, and Charlotte Long. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Wednesday, December 21, from 4-7PM. The family will gather with their relatives and friends for the Funeral Mass at Church of the Assumption, Emerson, NJ on Thursday, December 22 at 9:30AM. Interment to follow, Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, NY.
