After enduring 15 years of debilitating health issues, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Michael Thievon, 78, of Jackson, NJ, formerly of River Vale, NJ. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Maryann Thievon (Curko), adored daughter Alyssa Kendrach (spouse Joshua Kendrach) and son John Thievon, and beloved grandchildren Mila and Liam Kendrach. He is predeceased by his father, John Joseph Thievon, Mother Rose Thievon and sister Patrice Thievon.
John was born in Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School and attended Monmouth University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business education. John moved on to begin his career as a business education teacher at North Bergen High School and was also an adjunct professor in the athletic department of Ramapo College.
John was cherished for his sense of humor, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. He was quick-witted, artistic and a diehard Yankee fan. His lifelong passion was golf, not just as a player, but also as an instructor. John’s greatest joy was being surrounded by his family and close friends and entertaining them with his witty jokes.
The family invites you to join them in celebrating John's life on March 8, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd, Westwood, NJ 07675. The celebration of John’s faith will be held on March 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 69 Valley St, Hillsdale, NJ 07642.
