

Joseph M. Valentine, age 78, of Westwood, New Jersey, was called home on November 10th 2014 at the Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on September 11th 1936 to the late Joseph and Catherine Valentine of the Bronx New York and was one of four children. He attended Roosevelt High School and after his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and proudly served as a supply sergeant through 1957.
After he left service from the Army, he went on to be a sales man in New York City. After some time he formed his own company that consists of promotional advertising and worked out of his home so he could be closer to his family and spend more time with them.
Some of his quiet hobbies were collecting baseball cards, stamps and Lionel trains as well as many other interesting things. He enjoyed spending time with his family and taking family vacations to places like Nantucket and Cape Cod. His favorite holiday was Christmas as he loved putting the tree up, decorating and listening to Christmas music.
Joe was an avid baseball and football fan to his beloved teams the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He coached little league baseball in Westwood and is remembered fondly as "an amazing coach and sweet man" and by another of his former players "an amazing guy, tons of fun and a wonderful baseball coach". His little league team from the summer of 1981 went on to be undefeated. He also played in a men’s softball league and played on a team named the Colt 45’s and he bowled in a league as well.
Joseph was predeceased by his loving brother Ron and brother-in-law Andy and is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Fusco) Valentine of 51 years; his children Lisa Wyckoff and her husband Eric and their child Erin and Courtney Schlick and her husband Frederick and their children Anthony, Jenny and Jason; his sister-in-laws, Theresa, Ann-Marie and Annette. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Dawn, Ron, Wendy, Dana, Michael and Nancy.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday December 13, 2014 at 1pm at St. Andrews Church, 120 Washington Ave., Westwood, NJ. Becker Funeral Home, Westwood, NJ is handling the arrangements and letters of condolences can be made to the family at www.becker-funeralhome.com.
