I am so sad to hear of Lou’s passing. I just read about it today and am so deeply touched by all of the great memories that people have posted about him. I worked with Lou at Kraft and I have fond memories of lots of laughs whenever Lou was around and his infectious smile. My condolences to his family.

Lou was tolerant of my aggressiveness, mindful of my will, but mentoring in my acclimation. He became a true mentor of mine. We called him "Sweet Lou". In meetings, his smile would light up the room. While we waited for meetings to start he would always talk about his family. It was awesome. The expression on his face would take a whole new level. He was  a  gentleman, an optimist, a giver, and a truly good man. I am missing him.

Food sales are the reason Lou and I got to meet.   1994 in White Plains, NY, we both worked on Jell-O Pudding Snacks.   I learned a wealth of information from Lou.   He always referred to me as Big Country, since I was from Arkansas.   We had a great friendship that lasted years.   When he became the President of DeCecco Pasta, we reconnected to put the products into the worlds largest retailer.   Lou was always ready to give some advice and direction.  He was a great friend, mentor, and leader.   Appreciate his friendship and will miss him telling me in the New York accent - "Come On Big Country whatchagonnadoaboutit!"

It really was a blow to receive the news of Lou's death. He was the everyday positive person in the office, he took care of us PMI employees as if we were his family. Every day, when I first arrived at the office, he was already there, very early in the morning, most of the time bringing with him food, snacks and any other kind of goodies for us colleagues. He loved cooking for us and was looking forward to getting together and celebrating all holidays in the office. He was a very energetic and positive person. He always had a good word to share with me, encouraging me to smile and reminding me that life is beautiful. I am deeply grateful to have met him, his presence has had a positive impact on my life, he makes me love this country and its people more. I spoke about Lou to my brother who is a priest in Italy today, he will celebrate a mass for him tomorrow morning to entrust once again his soul to God. Thanks for everything Lou, God bless your family always and see you up there.

My deepest condolences to Lou’s family. I was so saddened to hear of his passing. I only had the pleasure to know Lou for a short time however his impact on my life will be long lasting. From the first day Janine introduced us to Lou, he instantly became like family.  His smile was infectious and his positive attitude and enthusiasm for life was something we all should strive for. One of our favorite memories was his world famous annual sausage parties.  For those who have been, you know exactly what we mean!! He will be sorely missed.  Our deepest condolences go out to his loving and devoted wife Janine, who stood by Lou over these past years through thick and thin, supported him, respected him and gave Lou the marriage and life he so richly deserved. Wendy and I are saddened but honored to have known Lou.  He brought his best everyday and made everyone around him better.  Lou wore an infectious smile that DARED you to not laugh and have fun. I met Lou in September, 1982 in Fenwick Hall at Boston College.  I feel blessed to have Lou's loving friendship for the past 38 years.  My condolences to his wife, Janine, mother, Antoinette, brother, Peter, and his five wonderful children:  Lauren, Tara, MaryClare, Julia, and Brian,   I have so many wonderful memories of my times with Lou.  From the delicious care packages sent from  Mastriano's Meats (thanks to his Mom and Dad) to Fenwick Hall and Roncalli Hall at BC, our trip to Montreal in October, 1982,  his Chrysler Laser, late night in the Mods, to my visits to Lou's homes over the years (LA, Tampa, Kansas City, New Jersey, etc), ski weeks in Tahoe, to golf weekends from Las Vegas to Rhode Island, numerous Boston College tailgates, baseball games at Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, seeing the Chiefs at Arrowhead, celebrating our 50th birthday together with fellow BC '86 classmates,  and most recently this past December, an awesome evening with Lou and dear friends, Ed Kiley and Paul Norton at MSG in NYC to see Billy Joel.  Lou was so many things...father, son, brother, husband, businessman, leader, confidant, mentor, and friend.  I love you Lou.  Thanks for the joy and friendship over the years.  May you Rest In Peace. We met Lou when we moved to Ohio and our kids went to the same school in Mason, Ohio.  We found commonality in being from big Irish and Italian families that liked to eat, drink and have some fun.  As well,  we both worked in the Consumer goods industry and would find excuses to meet for a drink and talk business :).  
Every time I think of Lou I think of his devotion to his faith, his family, to his friends and to living life to the fullest.
While his life was cut short, he packed more into 56 years than most of us will ever do in 90 and I for one am a better person for having gotten to know Lou Mastriano and his family.

I was very sad to learn of Lou’s passing way too soon. I grew up a few blocks away from him and went to school with him and Peter. My condolences to his entire family, may his memory be a blessing for all who knew and loved him. 



We are heartbroken over Louis’ long illness and passing.  His mother Antoinette is my first cousin.  I am 10 years older than Antoinette, so I have watched her grow up, marry her wonderful husband Lou, raise two great sons, and derive immense enjoyment from eight beautiful grandchildren.  I have never seen a person who worked harder than Antoinette at all she did, including putting in long hours with her husband to grow their business, creating a welcoming home and yard, and instilling good old-fashioned values in her children and grandchildren (her “Circle of Life” as she has described them) to guide them into becoming the fine people that they are.  We desperately need more good people like this today!

The many tributes on these pages reflect that hundreds of lives have been enriched by Louis.   He was admired for his great personality, honesty, kindness, intelligence, work ethic, enthusiasm, positive attitude, respectfulness, faith, and devotion to his family.  These qualities are a direct result of the unconditional love, influence, and closeness of his family of origin, especially his parents, Antoinette and Lou, and his grandparents, my Uncle Peter and Aunt Ida, who were very involved in the early lives of Louis and his brother Peter.  May this goodness and zest for life be carried on to the next generation by Lauren, Tara, MaryClare, Julia, Brian, Nick, PJ, Sophia, and William, and may all of Louis’ family and friends be uplifted by his strong but gentle spirit. Lou was a dear friend and long time colleague at Kraft. I have many fond memories of work and play. There were several business trips to Vegas with great meals and late night antics.  My favorite memories would be from the annual Fritz golf outings.  RIP Lou, you will be missed.

I am terribly sad to hear of Lou’s passing. I worked with him for two extended periods over the course of 20 + years.  During that time, as a marketer of new products, I found myself often negotiating  and trying to persuade Lou. He was a  great listener and shrewd salesman, but always an honest broker & gentleman.  He left his beloved family way too soon.  They, more than anything, defined his life and filled it with joy. Of course, they know that. May it bring some measure of comfort now. 

I had the good fortune of working as a marketing counterpart to Lou’s lead in Sales over a handful of years at Kraft, ending about a decade ago.   Spending time together in the office or on road trips calling on customers I got to learn more about his life outside of the office and about his family.  He was a sweet man with a heart even larger than his memorable smile.  Needless to say I’m stunned and saddened to have seen this news and my heart goes out to his family.  

Lou was such an incredible human being. His great personality, passion for life, commitment to his family and positive attitude we’re just incredible.  He was a great GF’r and he can’t be replaced in this world.  His smile makes us all smile! RIP 

My daughter Janine and Lou visited us in  San Diego two years ago before Lou fell ill.  Lou borrowed my golf clubs and played a round of golf with Margarita and my friend Seung Chay.  I recall Lou making us an authentic Italian dinner.  Janine and Lou were in the same graduating class at Boston College.  I am proud to call Lou my son-in-law  while only for a short time.  Lou’s laughter was infectious.   Lou fought hard for two years to beat his cancer never giving up even as his death became near.  We regret that Lou suffered so much the last couple of weeks but are comforted by the care Janine provided.  Rest In Peace my Son!

So saddened to hear this news. Lou is my best-friends father. Whenever I came over he always welcomed me and made me feel like family. I have great memories at his house in Saddle River. I will always remember the dinner parties he would have. He cooked so much amazing food for friends and family during the holiday seasons.  I will never forget how generous and kind he was to everyone around him. Sending love to all the Mastriano's, I love you guys.

I worked with Lou indirectly at Kraft Foods.  I was in marketing while he was in sales.  Last time I saw Lou, I had just left Kraft after our division was moved to Chicago... I bumped into him in the supermarket parking lot and even though I had not seen him in almost a year, it was as if no time had gone by... he gave me his card and told me not to hesitate to contact him if he could help in any way during the next phase of my career... that was over 7 years ago and I still think about that exchange and how generous he was... my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children and family.

I’m so sorry to hear this terrible news.  I knew Louis a long time ago when we grew up in Clifton.  He was a great kid to grow up with...always smiling and a good friend.  I loved going to Giants games with him and his Dad...we always had fun tailgating and playing football in the parking lot.  Great memories and stories I will always remember.  Please accept my deepest condolences...a good man is gone way to soon.  


I have a vivid memory of my dear cousin Louis standing in the living room of his house in Lyndhurst, before the Mastrianos moved to Clifton.   He was very proudly serenading the family with his accordion, while displaying his trademark dazzling grin.  He enjoyed keeping us entertained and was not shy about his musical talent.  He and I were the same age, probably around 11 or so, but even then it was easy to see that Louie would be going places!   Sure enough, he traveled the world and reached the pinnacle of success in his career, but he never forgot his roots.  He was confident without arrogance; fun without carelessness; talkative without obnoxiousness; exciting without drama; courageous without irresponsibility;  athletic without being sports-obsessed; a leader without abusing his power; a hard worker who still placed his family first.   He found balance and fulfillment in his journey of life.  

Above all, Lou’s most prized role was being a devoted father, son, brother, husband, colleague, and friend to the many people who were so important to him.   What a phenomenal role model and guiding light he has been -- and will continue to be --  to his children!  We all have learned so much from him and will miss him terribly.   May he rest in peace with his beloved father, grandparents, and all those who have gone before him.    Our deepest sympathies to his amazing family.

I met Lou once at a General Foods meeting and it was a lasting memory. I remember him having an everlasting smile, telling a joke, and making everyone in the conversation at ease. RIP Lou.

The terrible news of Lou’s passing was posted on the Clifton High School Class of 82 Facebook page. It is my hope that his family can access that post to witness the outpouring of love. He touched so many lives and even after 40 years, the memories of Louie are still strong. He was truly respected.

Lou will always be remembered for his great disposition, friendly smile and kind heart. We were classmates in MS and HS, and I have so many great memories of good times together. Lou always took time to talk to you, and listen. He was wise beyond his years. My condolences to his family. 

Although I never worked directly with Lou, I saw the positive impact he had on those around him.  Energetic, passionate, and always willing to help you in any way he could.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Lou.  I got to know Lou back in the 1980’s when we both were starting our careers at General Foods.  20 years later I had the pleasure of working for Lou in Tarrytown NY.  Lou was so kind, smart, fun, and a strong leader.  Such qualities made our work environment very enjoyable.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Words cannot begin to reflect the sorrow that I feel with the loss of Lou Mastriano.  Lou was my direct supervisor in the the Desserts Division where he was the Sales Director.  He was the best boss I ever had.  We worked hard and we played hard.  He treated me as an equal.  Often times Lou would put me aside and asked me if my schedule was open.  We would head down to the gym and play racketball where he would often trounce me.  His personality was radiant.  When he walked into a room, he lit it up.  His family was his life and his kids were his pride and joy.  I will never forget the afternoon our families had together on my boat at Candlewood Lake.  I never knew that so many kids could be so well behaved!  My sincere condolences to Lou's family.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I have not seen Lou since high school, but I remember him so well. Ask anyone who graduated from Clifton High in 1982, and they would tell you what a good guy Lou Mastriano was. He was a friend to everyone... he was non-judgmental, outgoing, courteous and kind. My heart breaks.  Lou and I met his move-in day at Boston College.  I was his RA.  I was lucky enough to meet his family  on that day too.  I know where Lou got his charm and good looks.  We were lucky enough to spend our work lives together too.

My heart was sadden when I heard the news of Lou’s passing this morning from a former Nabisco colleague. Lou was a terrific person that I had the pleasure of working with just a brief period  and always found him to be a warm, comforting, gentle man with a big heart and empathy toward others.  Last saw him at the Shoprite LPGA event last year and it was like a terrific reunion of friends and colleagues. Lou was a true BC guy ... who lived  the Jesuit values. I was very sad to hear the news of the passing of my great friend Lou. I had the pleasure of knowing him for over 30 years and watched each others families grow up and spend time together in Kiawah Island. He will be missed by so many friends especially from General Foods and Kraft. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Lou's family. I have many great memories of Lou through working at Kraft with him for many years and our "boondoggle" crew getaways to Pensacola Florida. Never without a smile and always asking how you are doing first.

Please accept my sincere condolences and heartfelt prayer. This loss is very deep. Lou always lit up when he spoke about his family. He was especially proud of his children. My deepest sympathies to you all. 

Early in my career I worked with Lou in White Plaines, NY for General Foods.  Being from the Midwest, I found the transition to the New York area challenging.  Lou was a welcoming friend who was very supportive.  I’ll miss his smiling face and uplifting sense of humor.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Lou's passing. My husband and I met  Lou when our sons were lacrosse team mates at Highlands. He volunteered many times to cook delicious pasta meals for the team and would tell me how much enjoyment he gained from cooking for the boys. Always so generous and kind with a big smile on his face.  Our deepest condolences to Lou's family.

I was so sorry to hear the news of Lou’s passing. We worked together at GF and Kraft for a long time!  Such a good man, positive and upbeat, smiling all the time. Lou was a great family man as well. Karen and family, I’m so very sorry for your loss.  May perpetual light shine upon him. 

I am so very sorry to hear about Lou today. He and I worked together at Kraft for many years - he was a mentor and good friend. One of my favorite memories of Lou was dinner at his home in Cincinnati with my husband and watching his beautiful kids sitting at the kitchen counter having ice cream. Just a wonderful family.

I was saddened to hear of Lou's passing. I knew Lou for 30 years, as we both worked for Kraft Foods. I had the pleasure of having dinner with Lou the last couple of years around the holidays with Mark Magazine and Marty Heaney. Lou was a great co worker and a great man.  My god bless you and watch over you.  RIP Lou you will be missed. 

Lou is an inspiration to me.  He was one of the first people who truly welcomed my family into this town.  I cannot picture him without that devilish grin he always wore.  He has dealt with years of adversity and has handled every blow with character, a quick joke and that smile.  Lou is a true gentleman.  I would leave some conversations shaking my head thinking how strong Lou is. Through it all he has always looked on the bright side and lifted everyone around him.  He has made a lasting mark on my heart and soul. God Bless.

My sincerest condolences to the family.  I have known Lou for over 30 years as we both started for General Foods as part of Kraft family. We worked together in White Plains in the late 90’s.  I have been fortunate to be with Lou on an annual Pensacola trip with Kraft Buddies.  We will miss his smile and laughter.  Rest in peace Sweet Lou.

He always would be the first to help out whenever needed. Lou's community spirit was evident when he volunteered for the Saddle River CERT team and when he was one of the original designers of the Community Garden.  He put a lot of effort into both! My favorite (& I think his too),  was when he drove the Good Humor truck in the Memorial Day Parade! Lou enjoyed everything he did.

I was one of the many people that worked with Lou at Kraft Foods. He was a great man. I had the pleasure of both working for him and hanging out with him outside of work when we both moved on from Kraft. I will miss his smile and optimistic attitude. God Bless you Lou!

My deepest sympathy and condolences to Lou’s family and friends. Lou and I worked together at Kraft Foods in Kansas City from 1999 to 2002. We became close friends for the remainder of our Kraft careers and thereafter. We had great times every September when about 6 Kraft guys would gather at my beach house in Pensacola every year. Lou was a great friend and a class act who will be sorely missed. Love you Lou!
