

JoAnn was born on July 22, 1943, in the Bronx, New York to James and Martha Evans. She is survived by her husband Richard, her son William, his wife Meg, and her grandson Van; her brother Jeffrey Evans, his wife Getta; her sister-in-law, Judy Jacob and her partner, Tim Chase; her sister-in-law Barbara Pikarsky and her husband William Pikarsky, who both predeceased her; as well as many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn’s father served in the United States Navy during World War II as an electrician. Upon his discharge he began his career in broadcasting. As his career advanced, the family moved to West Virginia, Florida and finally settling in Bristol, Virgina where JoAnn attended and graduated from Bristol High School. JoAnn went on to Saint Elicabeth’s College in Convent Station, NJ, where she earned her degree in economics and languages.
JoAnn worked her entire career in the financial industry beginning with AT&T as assistant to the Treasurer, then: Mutual Benefit, Bankers Trust, Bessemer Trust Company, Fiduciary Trust Company, First Fidelity Bank, and finally finishing her career with Wells Fargo Bank as a Vice President, Trust and Estates Administration Officer.
JoAnn was an animal lover who supported many charities devoted to the care and protection of both domestic and wild animals. In addition, she always found time to rescue stray and abandoned cats and dogs, finding them loving homes. Often, she adopted them when no other option was available.
In retirement, JoAnn became an avid Bridge Player, playing in up to three organized card events a week and often being invited to play at private events with other very experienced players.
JoAnn was a devoted mother and wife, and nothing was more important to her than her family and friends. She made the people around her feel important and encouraged them to reach their potential. Their lives were enriched having known her and being in her company.
