With much sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Mila Serrano Dever, of Westwood, NJ on May 22, 2026, affectionately known to her family as Mimi and known to those in Westwood as the neighborhood Abuela. Born in San Salvador on August 22, 1936, she spent 30 wonderful years there before meeting her spouse Daniel Dever and then settling down in Queens, NY.
A loving mother and grandmother, Mimi is survived by her daughter Mila Ohlstein and her husband Chris Hall, her beloved granddaughters Emma and Zoe, her step-grandsons Nathan and Charlie, her brothers Jorge Serrano, Miguel Serrano, Carlos Serrano and Juan Jose Serrano and sisters-in-law Amelia Mena, Aurya Serrano, and Gladys Mendez. She was a beloved aunt and great-aunt to a huge and sprawling family located all over the US, El Salvador, Brazil, Nicaragua and England. She adopted our neighbors, the DiCuffa family, as her own. People who knew her loved her.
She was always known for opening her arms and heart to all those who crossed her path. Even in her later years, suffering from dementia, her effusiveness and love for all shone through. She never missed mass no matter where she was living and attended Saint Andrews Church for the past 22 years.
The family will receive their family and friends on Sunday, May 31 from 1-5pm at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ.
Her interment and a mass celebrating her life and faith will be held in El Salvador to celebrate her 90th birthday in August.
