It is with deep love and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Patricia Halligan, a cherished mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, who passed away peacefully in the presence of loving family on November 5, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born on November 23, 1941, in Teaneck, New Jersey, Patricia dedicated her life to her family, her students, and her community. For 55 years, she made her home in Harrington Park, where she built a life centered on love, laughter, and learning.
Pat was the beloved wife of Jerome Halligan and the devoted mother of Lauren (Scott) Syre, Mark (Lynne) Halligan, and Damian (Kerry) Halligan. She was the dear sister of Maryann Stitzenberg and the proud and adoring grandmother of Katherine, Elizabeth, Connor, Catelyn, and Lia, each of whom brought endless joy and light into her life. In addition to her loving family, Pat is remembered fondly by her friend, Jack Mawe, whose companionship brought her great happiness in her later years.
For three decades, Pat taught math at Emerson High School, where she inspired generations of students with her patience, humor, and the conviction that everyone could master algebra and geometry. Her influence endures in the lives of countless former students and colleagues.
She was a devoted parishioner and lector of Our Lady of Victories Parish in Harrington Park. She was a dedicated member of the Harrington Park Recreation Commission and the Harrington Park Swim Club.
Pat found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, including family gatherings filled with good food and laughter, her famous Christmas spritz cookies, and time spent with her neighbors, who brought so much happiness to her life.
Pat also cherished her annual vacation in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where she found joy sitting by the pool in the company of her family, enjoying long dinners, and watching the sun set over the ocean. Those trips were a treasured family tradition, a time for rest, reflection, and togetherness.
Patricia will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, and unwavering kindness, a legacy carried on through the love she shared, the minds she nurtured, and the many lives she touched as a teacher, colleague, friend, and mother.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pat’s life on Sunday, November 9, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM EST at Becker Funeral Home, located at 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood. A Mass Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 10, at Our Lady of Victories Church in Harrington Park, NJ. The interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bergen Catholic High School, 1040 Oradell Ave., Oradell, NJ 07649.
