READIE, Patrick Devlin Jr., 80, of Westwood, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, April 7th, 2020. Patrick was a beloved Father, best friend and a favorite ‘Pal’ to everyone that knew him. As the patriarch of his family, he was a doting Poppy and a lovable, cherished ‘Uncle Pat’ to so many. He is survived by his dear children Lynn Van Gorder and her husband Tommy, Lorraine and her husband Ciarán and Scott and his wife Jennifer; his grandchildren Erik, Luke and Drew, Conner and Emma-Claire and Aibhlinn. He is predeceased by his adored wife Claire, the love of his life, to whom he was married for 40 years.
Patrick, the youngest of seven children, was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY on August 24th, 1939, to Scottish-immigrant parents. He served in the U.S. Navy in the 1950’s as a radioman on a destroyer. He then became a voice and data technician for Western Union International and MCI International and accomplished thirty years of service until he retired in 1989. Although he was in ‘retirement’ he still had many jobs in an effort to continue to support and provide for his family, his greatest purpose in life. Patrick enjoyed music, cooking and history but what he loved most was a good chat while in the company of his cherished circle of friends and family, all of whom marveled at his quick wit and sense of humor. His hearty laugh, his one-of-a-kind catch phrases and those sweet, special times spent together will forever live on in our hearts and souls. We love you Pal!
A Memorial Mass celebrating Patrick's life and faith will finally be held on Tuesday, August 24th, 2021, Patrick's 82nd Birthday, at St. Andrew's R.C.
