

MARNS, Paul Daniel, 53, of River Vale, NJ. Beloved son of Marguerite Bogda, passed away suddenly at home on January 24, 2017. He is survived by his brother, Dr. David Soriano and his wife Victoria. Nieces Valerie Nelson and her husband Tim, and April Soriano. Grandnieces Aubrey and Emily Ann Nelson. Also survived by Brothers in Arms, Spirit and Heart, David Dulen and David Shaffer. Sgt. 1st Class (Retired) Paul Marns served his country with honor and incredible distinction for 20 years. He joined the United States Army in 1987 and served his entire career as an Infantryman and Sniper. He deployed to Somalia, Haiti and Kosovo in the 1990’s and to Iraq in 2003. His numerous awards and decorations include 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 9 Army Commendation Medals, 11 Army Achievement Medals, 2 Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, 6 Army Good Conduct Medals, 2 Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, 2 Humanitarian Service Medals, 2 UN Medals, 2 Overseas Service Ribbons, 3 Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the NATO Medal. He also received the Combat Infantryman Badge with Star and earned the Expert Infantryman Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge and Drill Sergeant Badge. Sgt. 1st Class Marns was beloved by his Brothers in Arms and will forever be missed, but never forgotten. After retirement from the Army, Paul was a member of Local 1804-1 International Long Shoremen’s Association, working at APM in Port Elizabeth. Visitation at Becker Funeral Home. 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, on Saturday and Sunday 2-8 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday at St. Andrew’s R.C.
