Sandra Marie Matra

Sandra Marie Matra (Grillo) of Brooklyn, NY, died peacefully on Sunday January 5, 2024, surrounded by family members, at the age of 75. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 9, 1949, to Mary and John Grillo. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Matra; son Peter Matra, his wife Jana Matra, and their children, Michael and Grace; son Kevin Matra, his wife Veronika Ufberg, and their son, Roman; Siblings Frances Grillo, sister-in-law Mary Jane Grillo (wife of her late brother, John Grillo), Angela Verdonik and her husband Anthony, Theresa Grillo Landy, and Joseph Grillo and his wife Susie DiVietro, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who she held dear to heart. Sandra grew up in Brooklyn with family at the center of her universe. She enjoyed school and has always had a passion for reading. She never missed an opportunity to dance with her sisters, whether at an event or in the kitchen. She raised her sons with unwavering love and devotion, always ready to help them at a moment’s notice. She welcomed her daughters-in-law into the family immediately and without reservation. That unconditional love only expanded when she became a grandmother to her grandchildren. She poured her time and energy into loving them for the past 16 years and would do anything to bring them comfort or put a smile on their faces. Her love and loyalty were a gift to all of her extended family members and friends. Sandra always remembered a name and a face and could make anyone feel like a friend. Her family was all that mattered to her but when we think of her, we’ll also remember her dancing, reading, laughing, praying, and playing with her grandchildren

A visitation for Sandra will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM & 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. A Mass of Christian burial will occur Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church, 668 Ridgewood Rd, Township of Washington, NJ 07676. An interment will occur Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Westwood Cemetery, 23 Kinderkamack Rd, Westwood, NJ 07675.
