

Allen W. Wamester, 66, of Wethersfield, loving husband of Lynn (Johnson) Wamester, passed away Saturday (November 4, 2006). He was born January 29, 1940 in Middletown the son of the late Francis and Mary (Cronin) Wamester. Allen was an excellent athlete. He was the last pitcher at Wethersfield High School to throw a no hitter and he won many handicapped amateur golf tournaments on the East Coast. Allen was a Disabled American Veteran, having served in Germany with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #12. He worked with the handicapped commission in Wethersfield and was instrumental in getting the sidewalk curb cuts in town. Allen was proud to be the Grand Marshal in the Memorial Day Parade in 2006. He retired from the State of Connecticut Dept. of Transportation after many years of service. He also loved riding in his scooter with his golden retriever Tucker. Including his wife Lynn, Allen is survived by a son, Mark Wamester and his wife Kathy of Ft. Myers, FL; a daughter, Elizabeth Lawrence and her husband Andrew of Glastonbury; three brothers, Francis Wamester and his wife Joyce of Wethersfield, Richard Wamester and his wife Jane of Glastonbury and William and his wife Norann of Rocky Hill; seven grandchildren and a great grandchild. He is also survived by his dear friend Ray Bednarz of Wethersfield. Allen was predeceased by his first wife Susan (Willard) Wamester. Allen's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Eric Silverstein and his caring staff. Funeral services will leave Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield. Burial with full military honors will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield.
