Anthony “Tony” P. Gilistro, age 100, a cherished resident of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Dallas, Texas, on December 21, 1925, the son of the late Vito and Maria (Termini) Gilistro.
Tony proudly served as a U.S. Marine during World War II, in Guam. A master carpenter by trade, he left his distinctive mark on countless homes and projects. Beyond his exceptional skill, Tony had an extraordinary gift for knowing just what was needed—and having it on hand. Those who knew him could always count on his willingness to lend a hand, fix a problem, or simply be there when it mattered most.
In his later years, Tony found great joy at the senior center, where he formed deep and lasting friendships. He eagerly anticipated Friday’s spent playing his beloved game of Setback and competing in Wii Bowling with friends, moments filled with laughter and camaraderie that he treasured dearly.
A devoted family man, Tony is lovingly remembered as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judith Ann and Gerald Albanese of Wethersfield; his grandson, Seth Gilistro; his three great-grandsons, Joshua, Andrew, and Brandon; and his daughter-in-law, Laurie Bentley of San Antonio, TX. Tony was also blessed with a special companion, Dorothy “Dottie,” (whom predeceased him) whom along with her loving family, William and Dorothy, Danny and Susan, Cathy and Jamie, Meg and Rich, and Marybeth, welcomed him warmly into their lives and hearts as one of their own.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann Marie (Pelletier) Gilistro; his parents; his son, Anthony V. “Skip” Gilistro and his sister, Rita Gilistro.
The family would like to thank his amazing caregivers, Jasmine, Jackeline, Henda and Valencia; words cannot thank them enough for the compassionate and touching care they provided Tony.
